Phone operating systems have the same network effect as Uber and Amazon: nobody is going to use a phone if it won't run many apps; and nobody is going to develop apps for a phone that doesn't have many users.
Even Microsoft with Billion$ of dollars to subsidize both phones and apps couldn't break in.

Sailfish OS is pretty good once you're familiar with the user interface, it feels like using a phone from the future and yes, it does support Android apps but you've to remember, for an OS to be successful, it needs to have native applications. The demise of Windows Phone OS is an example why any OS can't survive without apps. Since Android applications are designed to run on Android operating system (Alien Dalvik), some apps won't be compatible with other OS. I mean, in my Sailfish OS phone, many of the Android apps run fine but won't be able to perform a specific function or two since it's not running on a complete Android system.

They should ... moreWhat I mean is that app support is an EXTREMELY important adoption factor, and market share is also extremely important for app support. Nokia should have incentives for devs if it plans to reboot Meego. Samsung did the job for Tizen, the list of apps is decent for a low-end/modular OS like Windows CE.
And, you know, history tells us that mainstream consumer products are involved in a monopoly after little time, usually between two or three parties, and one of them has the huge piece of the cake. And history tells us that the tendency has never reverted. Examples include OSes and components, and there are a lot. Some names include Microsoft, Intel, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Google...
So I'd suggest you get along with the idea that you'll have to choose between Android, iOS and Tizen (I have fate that Tizen will be a successful OS, namely because of it's successful implantation in TVs and wearable. If only there was a high-end Tizen phone...)

Most people use a lot of apps on their phones and the app's developers won't support another OS if there is not enough people using it.

1. Don't ever buy Android device.
2. Don't ever buy Samsung device.
Really, there are a lot of people who don't want to be slaves of monopoly (and outside iOS, Google is.) After 4-5 years when Windows Phone is probably (but you never know!) left unsupported, i have a hard time to pick a phone, because another monopoly named Apple isn't option for me also. Ubunti Mobile OS, Sailfish or Tizen (indirect successor of MeeGo), if anyone else but Samsung should make higher than entry level Tizen phone.

You forget to mention "Glance Screen". Nokia applied that feature since the monochrome phone they have made. And now you just know Always On Display but the Pioneer is Nokia. Boom!

5800 was a beast when it came to music playback, hope they go for a succesor to that next year, a pure music phone from nokia with stereo speakers and proper audio circuitry.

Nokia started losing the game much before Windows phone when the had their first generation touch phones(not counting 7710) those duds ie n97,n97 mini ,5230,5233,etc were all junk phones poor hardware for the price and lots of quality issues on lower end.The $500+ n97 had the same processor as the $100 5233.This useless trend continued when they put a 680mhz processor and 256mb ram on n8 and E7 when competition was offering 1ghz and 512mb,both great phones but it seems Nokia wanted to intentionally fail so that Microsoft buys them.

When Lumia 520 come out it was impressive with it's hardware and price point in the market with no competition to it in the same price.
Now the Nokia 3 is in that spot but with so boring specs that the price is overpriced as there are lots of competition with better hardware and lower price. Yes only good thing about Nokia is that, it have latest clean Android and that's about it.
I am looking a budget phone up to 150 euro right now and only thing I like the most is Sony Xperia XA that is 20 over my budget. Decent specs and size of the phone.
I use my Lumia 520 still and it's over 4 years old. Battery still last over 2 days when few calls a day and that's about it of use.
I have my Lumia 830 in guarantee over 2 months by now and my guarantee period ended 12 aug 2017. Time period when I can ask money back or new device as the site don't mention nothing about write-off need to be phone to get it replaced in the same price range. But well little shop in little market that is full of little shops for little markett :D want to screw even with the 238 euro I paid for it. I would cladly pay 2 euro for them to get Samsung A3 A320 that they sell for 240 euro on there site and it would be done. I would not need even a guarantee for it cause I never want to do business with them again.
I am type of person who is to lazy to go in lengths like getting involved with consumer protection and there for will make pad reputation for that little shop in a little market name.
I don't even use any cover or screen protection on my phones cause I don't drop them and hold them in a pocket with keys or coins. But to get my phone out from my pocket it cant be bigger then 140mm in length and even then it must have rounded corners.
Cause I have hard time to get my Lumia 830 out of pocket.
And well looking the market now even phones like Xiaomi, Meizu, Huawei and other Asian country phone with the price of under 150 euro have nice specs. Maybe some of them can be rooted. In that price range devices will do everything for you anyways. If you don't play games these phones have enough power to make you happy in your social media apps.
If you drop it and it breaks then who cares you buy new one out and don't need to leach 12 to 24 or even more months to pay back the phone or rent the phone and pay something 20+ euro for month to have decent contract.
