Today Nokia announced a whole bunch of new budget-oriented mobile phones. The new handsets are Nokia 1200, 1208, 1650, 2660, 2630 and 2760. They boast some spanking new features and thus...

Nokia pretty much makes the most solid phones for your buck.. this is the reason why they are at the top.. anyone else that thinks different is only fooling themselves!

Nokia is dead? Go to many parts of Africa and parts of Asia and these are exactly the type of phones that will sell to a very, very large amount of people. Up and coming markets do not have 3G, the people do not need fancy gadgets - they just need a simple phone to make calls. And as these are often poor countries, these phones need to be CHEAP hence why Nokia releases phones like this.

If you don't understand the global market and assume anyone who doesn't use a N95 or W880 must be an idiot then please don't bother posting here anymore as you just make yourself look rather daft.

Sorry but nokia is dead. They are still living back in the good old days when they actually made the best phones and the best designs. Desings are BAD! Looking at Motorola and Sony one can only say that Nokia has fallen behind the competition. If it was not for N95(, Nokia is pretty bad.

"SeF, are you crazy? You're comparing 85 euro 2630 to 450 euro SE W880i and saying SE is better?? Offcourse it IS. And what?"

hi dude, sorry if i made you react like that... what my point is that SE W880 got better specs with slimmer profile unlike the 2630 which is 9.9mm with lesser features. i dont have any reactions regarding the price in which is right for nokia. what my point is that i only compare them in "size-to-features" ratio. hope you understand.

Nokia has the highest sales for a very good reason. It's not about looks and name, it's about give people excellent value for their money.

Once you have a Nokia, whether it be a budget, mid-range or high-end model...you CAN'T go wrong.

With the exception of a few, MOST of you people shouldn't post anything.

I have to lift my hat to Nokia. They still cater to the people who aren't technologically minded, especially elderly people. Not everybody needs cameras in their phones and some companies DO NOT ALLOW camera phones onto their premises! So all those people who think every phone should have a camera and high-end features you need to grow up.

Another thing: Some of you say this and that about Nokia following designs from SE...Nokia has a reputation to uphold and I have never seen them imitating any other brand before! Some of you non-sensical people fail to realise that they are many phones out there, therefore SOME MUST look similar to others. Every phone can't have a unique design!

'U2ai' said that the 2630 is trying to compete with the W880...what a SILLY remark, how on earth can a budget phone compete with a high-end model, don't you people think before you say things ?

Nokia DOESN'T use the word "budget" when they are competing with higher-end models from other brands...in fact, when you think about it, Nokia doesn't really compete with anybody, as 'STEVE' said, they have the highest percentage of the market, which I myself know and it has been this way for years.
One of Nokia's greatest credibility goes to the telephony features in ALL of their phones, which makes them a best-seller everytime. Nokia's phonebook, ways of dialling, answering and interacting with phone numbers in text messages goes far beyond other manufacturers. Other brands focuses on camera and music features and forget the most important aspect of a phone which is the telephony features. For example, both the Nokia 6230 and Sony Ericsson K700 were supposed to be in the same class yet the Nokia was a instant winner with it's 1,000 contacts phonebook (which means 1,000 people with multiple entries to their names) opposed to Sony Ericsson's 510 items phonebook which means that if you were to assign 5 telephone numbers to a contact, the K700 would ONLY accomodate 102 people...now tell me, 102 persons compared to 1,000...who is the clear winner ? Not to mention, the K700 doesn't have a memory card slot like the Nokia 6230 among other necessities. Nokia makes the strongest and most reliable phones. Best of all, Nokia's antenna signal is probably the very best. Where you can't pick up with a SE, more than likely you will pick up with a Nokia. I can say this from experience.

High end phones like SE W880 shouldn't be mentioned in a budget forum. Go and mention them in forums for Nokia 6300, N80 and even the world's best 6230!

In my opinion are 2 kind of phones: Nokia and others. 2630 is the best low-end phone! Why you need N95, K800.... when you can buy this? The expensives phones are not good investition.

SE does not have an OS like nokia, SE is not a user friendly phone while it is easy to open many applications at the same time with nokia phones..

does people in emerging countries want N95?
and have you ever heard that largest mobile device volume sold today is low-end segment?
Moreover, Nokia has even stated that its largest volume sold is at 80-90EUR. Have you figure out yet why nokia launch its super-slim 2630 model?

Over here no one would want to be caught dead with a monochrome screen, even if the battery life is better...

U guys here worship Nokia, so it doesn't really matter. Nokia, knows while its handsets are good, they cannot beat SE. You can see for yourself, they made the N80, N73, N93, they are not the best, even the K800i from SE without Carl Zeiss Optics, knocks the socks off all of them... Nokia, wanted to displace SE's Walkman series, so they released Music Editions. Nokia has its name coz of its past records, otherwise they are nowhere. Even LG offers better phones. Take a look at SE's line, they aren't even trying that hard.

Im now using n70 and 1112 for my second sim, and the non coloured screen doesnt make any differences to me... Its even better, because its saves energy and my 1112 battery holds for almost 10 days sometimes :) so if you dont know why they made such phones you better shut up ;)

"These are basic phones, no more and no less. You said "Look at the 1650, the shape's a rip off SE's K310. Now we know, which is the trend setter" and then totally contradict yourself with "they are going back to what their phones used to be".

                                Make your mind up chump!

And factually speaking Nokia do rule the market with the largest percentage.

My source is this link dated 20th April 2007: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2...e_shipments/"

Just coz its No.1 doesn't necessarily make it a trendsetter...

Even lil kids who can use cellphones want colour screens, so U can keep Ur monochrome fantisies to Urself... But U should be happy, Nokia made Ur dreams come true.

Automatic call cut-off? That seems like a silly idea.

You'd have to rush your conversation, and if you're not able to get your complete message across you'd have to dial again.

I don't see the point of that.

That said, it's good Nokia hasn't forgotten the basic/simple-phone users.

I don't know if any of you function-loving boys have noticed that the 2660 is the first model ever from Nokia with Bluetooth, GPRS, speakerphone and built-in antenna, but WITHOUT built-in camera, in flip-format!? Those specs are exactly what me and most of my friends(30+ in age) are looking for in phones. Out of principle we don't want cameras in our phones, and that makes it pretty hard to find any advanced phones, with basic required functions like Bluetooth, GPRS and speakerphone. Besides the rather ugly and clumsy 6021, there has been none for many years, but now!!

"wow, slim 9,9 mm 2630 with TFT screen, camera, radio at just 85 euro? That's best budget phone ever. No moto or SE or samsung can't be compared to 2630!"

yes nothing can be compared to the SE and samsung phones with much better features:
W880 is 9.4mm with 2mp camera, bluetooth, QVGA screen, 3g camera, and 1Gb memory card slot though it's expensive...

samsung X820(ultra 6.9) and the ultra 5.9 have larger TFT screen, 2mp camera and bluetooth and price above higher than this low-ender

--> all in all nokia 2630 is good but the more featured SE and samsung with slimmer profiles is better.
