I think overall it’s a good phone with great spec & design.
But for a flagship, it’s essential to have waterproof, wireless charging & better camera in 2017. If they use AMOLED screen and provide headphone jack, it could have been justify with their brand name.

The software is free from Google and Essential didn't improve on it so of all the $700 you paid, all $700 is for the phone. This is greater margin than any other phone on the market. Essential won't even update after 2 years

I Hope Essential won't succeed.
This Phone is one of worst flagships this year
And you can tell that just by reading articles. T.T

"With these specs, Essential is hoping that the PH-1 will last more than a standard yearly cycle"...with titanium and ceramic the phone should last (tech relevance) atleast 5 years with software upgrade, else Nokia-3310 is way to go.

Oh, Endgadget review is up and it confirm what Gizmodo complained about, bad camera and lackluster screen compared to flagships.
It seems to have decent battery, look pretty, but the rest only manage to reach "no complain" level...
Not sure about the rest of you but for $700 smartphone, i need at least "good or mostly great". It's not the second coming of +1 and still very much behind LG, Samsung, and Apple.

According to Gizmodo it have a sucky camera.
It's barely fine in daylight as in incomparable to other flagship smartphones
It's barely work at night/lowlight as in the phone tells you "Failed to take photo. Please try again."
It's LCD screen also still few step behind to AMOLED or other Flagship LCD in color and blackness.
It's also didn't have headphone jack, wireless charging, or waterproofing.
They also note Essential claim that they'll update the infuriating camera software and it is a really pretty smartphone, but i think its a serious case of "Wait for PH-1s/PH-2"

It would have been the best phone of the year with the best value if it had a better camera, longer battery life, and $200 cheaper. And also if it wasn't stuck with awful Sprint.

Anonymous, 28 Aug 2017Is this thing upgradable by us or not!? I mean lenses, CPU ... moreI think, given its design, this is only limited to external accessories.
Internal components such as CPU, GPU, etc are NOT upgradeable... but then again, let's see what they can do... who knows, they might do a workaround for it.
