Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo receives Android 7.0 Nougat update

28 August 2017
It's a rather surprising move given the fact that this model is two years old.

    Interesting.
This reminds me of the Galaxy S3 Neo, which received the Android 4.4.4 KitKat while the original Galaxy S3 remained in the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Garbie2324, 29 Aug 2017how about Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime for nougat when will receive? Lol you should already know that Samsung doesn't (or rarely) push updates to non-flagship phones. I dont think it will reach Nougat tbh

Anonymous, 29 Aug 2017what about the Note 4 Exynos Version? It has better Exynos ... moreMany Android OEM only support their device up to 2 years or 2 major OS updates (many less with just up to 18 months or 1 major OS update depending on your device class).
Galaxy Note 4 is already 2 years old device, so it's not surprise that Note 4 won't received Nougat despite have a better hardware than S5 Neo. You can use custom ROM if you like to taste Nougat on your Note 4 or just buy Google Pixel device if you want long supported device next time.

Anonymous, 29 Aug 2017what about the Note 4 Exynos Version? It has better Exynos ... moreThe S5 neo is a S5 "re-release" with Android 5.1.1. It has thus the support of the S6, not the S5. The Note 4 has the support of the S5, plus frequent enhancement updates. And the CPU isn't the problem. The Exynos 5433 and the SD805 support Nougat and meet all prerequisite. Unfortunately, as the Tab S2 with E5433 received Nougat, and the Nexus 6 with SD805 too, the reason is that Samsung is not feeling like giving an update even if the phone deserves it.

Such a bummer that Android can make HW obsolete. Guess I am fortunate I do not use Android at the moment. Don't have that problem on Windows where 4 yr old Nokia phones can run the latest OS updates.

Android should support phones especially flagship phones for about 4 years or so. They put there the latest and best hardware during the release of the phone and it can only support the OS for 2 years?! Are you telling the customers that the best and latest hardware cannot support the OS after 2 years of upgrade, it will become obsolete, lag, and useless?

A bit surprising for a forgotten device but it makes sense considering the two year life span.
