Verizon's Pixels are starting to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update

29 August 2017
We assume this means it won't be long before all Pixels that aren't part of the Android beta program get the new tasty treat.

After a day with Oreo, I am not a fan of the new notification shade. I don't like how some cards have become slimmer where I can't really see what it says and don't like all that white. I also don't like the Settings menu. I have to use the search just to find PiP. And PiP isn't all that as of now. More apps needs to be updated for it. Feels too beta. Typical Google with half-baked features.

I only like that the emoji blobs are gone. It's nothing special so far. I don't notice any smoothness improvements. I will restart my Pixel which I rarely do to see if it boots up faster compared to before. Just stick to Nougat and wait for Android 8.1.x for some more refinement. Battery life hasn't been affected but we will see. I didn't have time to backup and restore to new.

Stick to Android 6 and 7 because 8 isn't that great so far. But ever since MM, Android improvements really haven't made huge steps. Just mimor refinements. I don't regret getting Pixel or upgrading to Oreo though. That's the whole point with me getting a Pixel as my daily driver. To use as a guinea pig for software updates and makes me decide for my other phones still stuck on older software.

I'm really disappointed with picture-in-picture feature which is the most interesting to me. It seems I need to be a YouTube Red subscriber and only the browser app I can use to do it is Chrome. My browser is Opera Mini or CM. It worked on Chrome for a little bit and now it stopped working. You have to put it full screen and sometimes I press home, nothing.

My Pixel is my software update guinea pig. If PIP continues to suck or no real changes, I will keep my LG phones on Nougat for good. My G5's battery life on Android 7 has been excellent. I don't want to backup and restore it again just for Oreo. I would still need to re-download games. Everything from the smoothness and battery life is just perfect so why ruin it? The only thing Nougat sucked at was the stupid cat Easter egg. I miss the Flappy Android game in Lollipop and Marshmallow.

So far, not much of a fan of Android Oreo but this is just my first few hrs with it. No real difference in battery life. More of the same. Some parts a little worse. PIP needs more work.

Finally got it updated to O. No much changes.

Updated my Google pixel to 8.0.0 just a few mins back.

There are no major UI changes in this version many reviewers on YouTube and other websites have highlighted the same.

The OTA update is not working. I downloaded and installed Android O through OTA. But after rebooting the device the version still shows 7.1.2

There is hardly any difference between Android Nougat and Android O. I was looking for some major changes. It's a feature rich Is but it's very dull too. Google should now include theme options too. Night/dark mode is still missing I think.
