Verizon's Pixels are starting to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update

Vlad, 29 August 2017

Last week Google started rolling out the final version of Android 8.0 Oreo to those devices enrolled in the Android beta program, and today it looks like it may finally be ready to expand the rollout. Verizon has announced that the Pixel and Pixel XL units it has sold should be receiving the update to Oreo starting today. The carrier has published the official update documentation, so the over-the-air rollout of the new release is probably already underway.

As usual in such cases, expect at least a few days to pass before every single Pixel or Pixel XL sold by Verizon is updated. After you apply the new update, you'll be on build OPR6.170623.012, the same one that went out last week for beta program members. The update has the August 5, 2017 security patch level, by the way. So it looks like it has finally passed carrier testing, at least in Verizon's case.

We hope this means that Pixels not bought from Verizon that also aren't part of the beta program are going to see this update soon too, but so far there's no confirmation of something like that occurring in the wild. Android 8.0 Oreo comes with Picture-in-Picture mode for videos, notification dots, the ability to snooze notifications, a reorganized Settings menu, and many more small tweaks and enhancements.

What's the replacement of the Easter Egg Cat in Android Oreo 8.0? Or is it still the same? Jellybean to KitKat animations were very good.

Doesn't rootless substratum work? It's basically stock, isn't it? It should be able to theme things.
