Android supports hardware acceleration, meaning yes workload can be offloaded to the GPU. This is however up to developers to do so, meaning their apps can use hardware acceleration, the user interface is not hardware accelerated due to the fact that there does not need to be. It would be like comparing Windows XP to Mac OSX saying XP is not an "optimized" OS due to the fact that it's GUI is not pretty. It's going to be pretty hard to compare OS as each use a different kernel, different stacks, different partitioning format. NTFS has its pros and cons as do HFS+, can you say that Windows 7 is inferior to OSX or vice versa just because one has HFS+ where as one does not? Are you going to say that Android is not optimized because the Samsung Ace does not run smooth? Once again, blame Samsung. Especially their touchwiz UI, do a direct comparison of Galaxy S running 2.2 vs the Galaxy S running 2.3 big noticeable difference as the Gingerbread running device uses EXT4 filesystem. Try running a G1 using a cyanogen mod. I guarantee you it'll be much faster than the Ace even though the Ace is clocked at a higher speed.

u know what's the best thing about all of that? as the article mentioned tablets and there processors become obsolete after 6 monthes of release, and prices fall dramatically! it was just last year when a cpu like samsung's hummingbird was from outer space and galaxy tab costed about 700€ here, and i got it last month on sale for 250€! it would be stupid imo to pay more than 300€ for a tab, and to think about it i am using the tab probabbly to less than half of it's potential, i mean i play full HD videos and ePSXe games sometime and that is more than enough for me! i am pritty sure that these tegra II and exynus tablets will be sold for similar prices by the end of year and man that's more cpu power than what one would need! in a year or two u will have a tablet with the abilities of a gaming laptop that has a life-cycle of 6 monthes before it drops to less than 30% of the initiall price, and that's just awsome!

GHz and MHz are not resources, its instructions per second that can be executed by the CPU. Have you even used an Android device before? Android itself is not bloated, its when you have individual manufacturers putting their own crap on the OS that creates resource being used up.

LOL i´ve been telling this for months, many ppl say that Tegra 2 sucks because ipad 2 dual core, and samsung´s one are a little faster, but remember that Tegra 2 has been out for more than a year now, obviously the NVIDIA team wasn´t sleeping all this time, and here is the result, now, lets wait another year for the competition to catch up.

Android hogs a lot of RAM and CPU in terms of Phone CPU speed. I just hope Ice-cream sandwich OS is more than unifying fragmented OSes together. Hope Ice-cream will optimize it's OS to its hardware to reduce cpu usage so it'll allow the user to play games a lot smoother without using such high CPU power and draining batteries.

i really dont think that OS,s will be able to be called "faster" or "slower" or even "laggier" with some processor like this,if anyone put even Mada on a smartphone with such hardware and it will sell bazilhons of unitis XD
