How much more *noticeably* faster can it be? Single core phones seem to be managing multi-tasking just fine right now. Perhaps in 4 years when applications become more complex and power-hungry. Right now, it's just an unnecessary, overpriced gimmick.

what a .... according to the speaker this chips will available for tablet first Q4 2011 then smartphone next Q1 2012. Hope plenty of hd games for this monster , this kal-el just used ARM Cortex A9 (4 core) just wondering what could A15 (8 core) do

Maybe it's unplayable on an nVidia dual core of ut that doesn't mean it's not playable on a exynos dual core cpu.

not a big deal. nVidia just taking the credit for ARM's work on the quad core version of the ARM Cortex A9 that they made available 2 years ago.

Project Kal-El? Nice one Nvidia! For those not familiar with that name, Kal-El is the birth name of Superman. His father was Jor-El. The Tegra 2 Dual-Core CPU rocks. But the final version of the Quad-Core Kal-El CPU will be off the hook! Dual-Core mobiles are going to be obsolete in the next few months it looks like.

Wtf i just got my Galaxy S II...then i found out no NFC or Face Recognition unlock....and now this?! There goes my $800. If you buy the next quad core phone maybe they'll roll out some insane...octo-core CPU that'll blow away everything else. So tired of this...

all those people boasting about dual-core will now seem stupid and they've been on the market for a short while
todays phones are fast enough for most people, this is just for showing off, i suppose.
yes, we could see great looking games, but if you're not a mobile gamer, i dont see why you would be interested in this

Look at those nettops, they are pretty thin currently can replace your entire desktop for your everyday task. Personally I like the idea that within the next 10 years my mobile device would be powerful enough to replace my desktop. Imagine you're out all day using your mobile device, you come home and decide you want to play some FPS on a 30" monitor. You dock your mobile phone into a dock and it powers on the 30" and you can play the latest fps in full resolution at a constant 30+ fps and your mobile phone charges while it's doing all this. that is an awesome idea and I personally welcome it.

Anonymous, 30 May 2011Sure it's a mobile version of quad, but unless there is a b... moreThat's not how it works. The manufacturing process also improves by time. Tegra 2 is a 40 nm chip. If they make Kal-El with the 28 nm process, it might actually consume less than Tegra 2.
If it'll be a 40 nm chip, then we probably won't see it in phones, but tablets.

Pointless, the first dual-core phone was released like 4 months ago and there will be quad-core phones out by holiday season. This way most phones will be outdated in 2012.
2014 - Tegra 6 will run crysis 3 on maximum and will replace your computer fully, running super hi-vision like it was his b***h

Sure it's a mobile version of quad, but unless there is a breakthrough in battery technology, that thing is going to flat fast (when it's used to it's potential). Plus don't get me wrong it's impressive, but mobile software is hardly making use of dual cores yet.

Some OSes are lighter, some heavier, but still phone makers should optimize their android implementations and stop relying solely on hardware. A fast hardware means nothing if software is poorly coded.
ios and WP7 aren't that much lighter than android but just look how snappy and smooth they are and it's not just because of the hardware acceleration. It's also because those OSes' codes are optimized for the hardware they are running on, A4 for iphone 4 and snapdragons for WP7.
Of course google can't do that because of the many different SoCs, and they can't force anyone to use a certain chip, so it's phone makers job to do it, as you said, and they aren't doing a good job.
That's one of the main reasons google took full control of honeycomb and did not let anyone to customize it, and they also chose a single chip, tegra 2, to make the code optimizing easier. Although I'm disappointed with honeycomb's current buggy and slow state. Things are improving, but they should have done better.

On another note, I was planning on upgrading my G2x(which is awesome by the way) to either the Sensation 4G or the Samsung Hercules, but after seeing the dynamic lighting on this... I had to change my pants and promise myself not to get another device until Kal-el comes out. On another note, I love the naming schemes of Nvidia, Tegra Kalmauku, kal-el(super man), Wayne(Bruce Wayne), Logan(Wolverine), and Stark(Tony Stark?!). So its DC comics, DC comics, DC comics, then Marvel and Marvel! Can't wait to see what Stark brings as Tony Stark is suppose to be a technology buff!
