Let's see
N95: Allin1 device, lots of applications, but
GPS functions only w/ Nokia SW?
Bugs @ service centers?
Battery? This must be the joke of this year
5MP? For what? Using more space in my phone w/ bad quality taken pics?
P1: IwannabeAllin1 device w/ 3D accelerator (that's why does not high frequency CPU), but
no GPS
no HSDPA
Come on... buy a WM, see the difference!

kenny:
oh dear, i've known and used P800 with UIQ 2 since 2002 and P910 based on UIQ 2.1, and i got to say that those two have alot more stable softwares than the currently available UIQ 3 based smartphone like P990. don't take my word for it, see for urself, lots of complaints everywhere in almost all forums of P990 on most online community, tons of software issues for P990 based on UIQ 3! and u don't hav to look far, "t4inc" said a thing about P990, lots of bugs. combination of S60 and PDA? like, can u really use P1 or P990 single handedly comfortably without d use of its stylus? answer = a big no, do S60 and UIQ hav d same amount of available software for downloads? answer = a big no again, S60 definitely hav wider choices.
and i quote from GSMarena
"In terms of software, the handset is identical to the previous UIQ 3 handsets and when compared to Nokia S60 smartphones it does LOSE only on Internet calls capabilities, which are much more developed in the latest S60 mobiles"
i don't see any combination of both PDA and S60 in UIQ if it can't do a certain strength of S60, being used single handedly with ease. and again, i quote:
"We feel that the toll it takes on NAVIGATION usability is greater THAN the ADDED BENEFIT of handwriting recognition, which is the ONLY FEATURE that really can justify the use of a stylus. Somehow, the SMARTPHONE PLATFORM (UIQ 3) CANNOT really USE the STYLUS EFFICIENTLY as much as POCKETPC does and it turns into more of a deterrent since you have to USE BOTH your hands to do things you could have EASILY DONE with a SIMPLE JOYSTICK or a D-pad if one was available."
is dat d kind of power u r referring to? i guess u don't ultimately understand wat i was talkin about in my previous post, i said
"SE P1 is really not ground breaking vs its predecessor P990"
ground breaking means = innovative, in other words, introducing new ideas or something new (in my case up there, against P990)
http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=groundbreaking
i guess by now u know wat i meant there, and also knew dat i never juz stare at OS versions and blankly post my opinions everywhere. here's wat i do: i use, scrutinize, analyze, sense, compare, balance price and features it offers plus review in detail a product thoroughly before posting any comments. perhaps u should b d one doing ur homework and research and see how it is..
peace out. i dont wanna start a fight here, just posted my opinion. and bash around with non stop arguments lol! i just got irritated with ur 2 last sentences in ur 1st paragraph. ciao! let's hope dat this P1 got rid of all d bugs in P990! especially in d previous firmwares released. but again, im saying, some bugs are now fixed in d latest P990 firmware, good news but really not dat good, coz as u see P990 has been around for many months now..

What an ugly phone. Seriously, what is wrong with Sony Ericsson these day?! Their phones look like calculators. Oddly enough, they also announced a very well-designed phone, the t650i at the same time they released this.
So, for every step forward, they take two steps back.
The P1 is NOT a successor the P990i. Even the prototype testers were surprised that what was supposed to be the M700 was suddenly rebranded as the P1i. Goes to show how insipid the "managers" (if they deserve that title) of Sony Ericsson have become. If anything, the spiritual heir to the P-line is the iPhone. It's no wonder that Sony is struggling. Their product pipeline is full of crap like the P1i and their killer products like the PS3 and P990i were launched late and (in the case of the p990i) with tons of bugs.

viperkid, do you know how capable is the UIQ 3 symbian 9.1? then have a play with P990 it's OS is a combination of a S60 and PDA interface... you don't really understand the real meaning of ground breaking, dont be just staring at the version of the OS. have your research and see how it is.
at last the long awaited rumor has been released. P700 is not, buit P1 SE dont want to increase the number too much.

Very very dissapointing. (I am a former P900 & P990 owner.) Why all the excitement in the GSMArena review? Same processor as P990i. No proper QWERTY keyboard. No DPAD for quick one handed operation. Same boring GUI that lacks the polish of some of Samsungs latest smart/Blackberry phones. While I am a fan of SE's consumer phones and the original Pxxx series concept, for an example of how to do a smart phone right, see the Palm 680 and new 755 which combine touch screen, keyboard and dpad to best effect. A total let down, if not a step backwards. What a contract to the innovative and exciting S500 whose only flaw is lack of a radio.

if u look in d specs below, SE P1 is really not ground breaking vs its predecessor P990
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=1318&idPhone1=1982
-same OS version, (i think SE should hav at least bundled it with ver 9.2 or newer)
-3.15mp camera, let's face it K800 was around since Q3 last year and also had this resolution, besides other manufacturers like nokia have 5mpx autofocus cams already. 3mpx camphones r nowadays d std..
-HSDPA support would hav been better (esp. with its touchscreen and market target)
-same processor speed of 208mhz (even my mid range N3250 hav faster built in, 229mhz!) a smartphone like this with touchscreen capability should hav faster processor (considering P1s price range..). one more note, N95 (if i may compare, coz dey r more or less b in d same price range, even if dey belong in different categories/market) has a dual CPU and much faster processor 332mhz though lower ram of 64..
http://forum.nokia.com/devices/N95
another one, N76 this time 1 CPU 339mhz but with 96mb RAM (almost d same as SE's P1s)
http://forum.nokia.com/devices/N76
this is SE's attempt to erase negative impressions with P990. software problems of d latter are serious and are actually experienced (previous firmwares released; this year d firmware is much improved) by its owners and let's hope dat SE really resolved those major software issues and hopefully regain its reputation (in smartphone category) like it was with P910
good work for d doubled RAM, higher internal mem, smaller dimensions and A2DP support though.. =)
GSMarena's final words:
Positive changes are noticeable both in system performance and in the hardware equipment. In terms of software, the handset is identical to the previous UIQ 3 handsets and when compared to Nokia S60 smartphones it does lose only on Internet calls capabilities, which are much more developed in the latest S60 mobiles. Apart from that, the Sony Ericsson P1 could have put up a very good fight with every competing messenger device currently on the market if it were not for the inconvenient keyboard solution.
We feel that the toll it takes on navigation usability is greater than the added benefit of handwriting recognition, which is the only feature that really can justify the use of a stylus. Somehow, the smartphone platform cannot really use the stylus efficiently as much as PocketPC does and it turns into more of a deterrent since you have to use both your hands to do things you could have easily done with a simple joystick or a D-pad if one was available.
