31 May, 2011
The first Symbian Anna phones, the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7, are now shipping. Announced back in April, these two have been on pre-order for a while and now you can buy one, if you don’t mind a long...

When will anna be released? If its taking so long, nokia will further lose their loyal clients like me. Android is promising. Android makes my symbian phone look tiny.. Wake up nokia! Listen to us..

So what if Android and iphone are faster. Speed wise its faster by the most a few seconds. Doesn't bother me much. But Symbian though not the fastest, has better battery life and better call quality as this is a mobile phone. UI on Android might be more eye candy but that's just the outlook. Symbian can easily design a more eye candied UI but its trying to give customer a better battery life. Android can last at most a day or maybe slight more but a Symbian phone eg Nokia N8 can last me 3 days on normal use with web browsing, listening to music, making calls, sms and using the camera.

Why all this comparing that mine is bigger, faster and smoother than yours. Get a life and stop putting other phones down. Every phone has its set back. But one thing is that Symbian has been around since way before the Motorola V3was the hottest phone in the US.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 20111. So my android device can't watch movies? That's funny, I... moreI'll answer that in random.
DLNA has been a native Symbian feature ages ago. The Nokia N80 started it way back in 2006. I just don't know why Nokia excluded it on the N8. Maybe one of the future software updates will enable it.
Nokia phones have always had the best screens, setting aside the resolution. If you're talking about the purple tint problem on Nokia's AMOLED display, guess what? Even Samsung's newly launched Galaxy S II have such problem and this time it's an annoying yellow tint. Even the first Galaxy S has a blue tint, clearly indicating that it's no longer Nokia's fault but Samsung's.
I said you won't get to appreciate and see the real-life value of USB OTG, FM transmitter if you're phone ain't got one. I just know that I can't go back anymore to a phone that doesn't have such features.
All current touchscreen smartphones can play music but the N8 has the best audio quality among 2010 smartphones beating the likes of iPhone 4 and Samsung Wave. Even Eldar Murtazin who's a Nokia hater just like you can't deny that fact. Nokia invest so much on quality hardware that has direct benefits and use to the end users like camera lens, optics, audio chip, GPS chip, etc to give them the best sonic experience, video playback, imaging and video recording quality, etc. You know, it's not all about the CPU.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2011what do you say if up coming symbian has 1.2 GHz ? That's imminent. Even Nokia said that 1GHz Symbian devices will be released in time. But I think that's when a major Symbian OS update is already ready to be released as well, much like how Apple launched a new iPhone with new hardware and new version of iOS.

Aaron, 01 Jun 2011Here's the tea. Try to use an N8 as your main device. Use i... more1. So my android device can't watch movies? That's funny, I play AVI fine using RockPlayerBase, have you even used an Android before? All Androids are capable of playing back music? Unless the N8 supports FLAC format(highly uncompressed high quality audio) but it doesn't so the N8 doesn't play music any better than Android. My G2x supports DTS audio which is better than dolby Digital Plus on the N8.

                    2. That's funny, my G2x also has HDMI, guess what? the Vibrant(Galaxy S) has HDMI out via microUSB adapter, and all androids supports DLNA, maybe you should look up what's DLNA.

                    3. Who uses FM Transmitter these days, AGAIN DLNA. Hell you don't even need to use DLNA, with wifi and SMB I can STREAM ANY MEDIA from my phone to any device in my home via wifi.

                    4. So you're saying Android users have to carry more to function the same? Please do tell what do android users carry more than Nokia users don't? last time I checked the only thing I carried around was my G2x.

                    5. Guess what? Android can open docs, edit docs, view docs, view pdfs as well too?

                    6. Obviously you're very ignorant, Android has had FREE VOICE NAVIGATION IN MOST COUNTRIES via Google Maps. This is free too. Also supports offline mode in which aside from the initial first KB of data to cache your direction requires NO DATA.

                    7. So whats all these "rich" functionality you speak of? USB OTG? I thought you just said it's all about convergence and not having to carry around more things? My Android can be used as a storage media as well. So please list all these "things" your phone can do that my phone can't?

                    8. So what's this good "hardware" you guys speak of? Nokia has had plenty of "hardware" problems. N8 dying mysteriously? Bad screens? Bad wifi performance?

blueglue, 01 Jun 2011almost 90% of the phones external components are plastic. ... moreWhatever type it is, plastic is still plastic. It gets scratched easily and the phone will look annoyingly ugly like a 2-year old used device in no time no matter how careful you are with it. After using an N8 with exceptional build quality and premium materials, I can't go back to a cheap plastic phone anymore.

Here's the tea. Try to use an N8 as your main device. Use it as it is intended to be used for: more and heavy on multimedia (image capture, video shoot, music playback, watching videos, HDMI, FM transmitter), less on web browsing (just casual browsing), casual gaming, productivity (editing/viewing docs), navigation (voice-guidance and works free offline), and you will see and appreciate its worth. Symbian devices have always been multimedia-centric with internet and web apps as only second to its focus. Symbian devices are for people like me who don't want to carry a lot of separate gadgets for different purposes. It is all about convergence. The built-in browser sucks at the moment but it can be updated anyway and an update is already on its way. And besides there's 2 alternatives to that. Install Opera Mobile and Opera Mini. There are people like me who won't sacrifice the rich functionality that N8 offers just to have flashy and speedy UI and full flash on web browser. Not worth it. I'd rather stick with an outdated phone you're calling that can do a lot more functions than any other up-to-date smartphones available right now. Apart from the CPU, which in Symbian terms is just fit, N8's hardware is light years ahead of any current Android phone. Symbian OS is very capable. Nevermind the simplistic UI. It can easily be updated anyway. I'm a sucker for good hardware that's why I choose the N8 over any Droid easily.

Penta band - what has that to do without the carrier's service, so no direct benifit to the user.

12 MP dedicated sensor - whats the use when the photos are just not right, we can take a dedicated dSLR for that matter.

if n8 has so many "wonderful" features, why is it a flop model? what is the sale % in comparision to SGS or iPhone? think judiciously rather than for the sake of argument.

i agree symbian's abilities, but still then where is nokia going wrong? why are you fanboys reluctant towards change/improvement.

The topic is a news not a battleground for OS wars.

One should look at the history, reasons and impacts of things.

1.when Symbian was the most popular OS the competitors like LG,Samsung,Sony etc have to use Symbian,Java etc for their phones.
They find it hard to compete with Nokia due to the latter build quality and reliability. So Nokia was the king and their only competitor.

2.Android arrives the scene, they all turned towards it as a help to fight Nokia.Android became popular and supported by Google a giant in software field.Android optimizes itself for touchscreen phones which were the next big thing.

3.Android improves very fast and the App store increases due to the number of companies using it and overnight becomes the future OS of choice.

4.Samsung success story- the software war ended and the hardware war starts and Samsung( a super giant in electronics) is hard to beat in it(although the build quality remains poor).

5.Symbian story- when Symbian was in the scene their were hardly any touch screen phones and it was optimized for it so the user interface and high end hardware support suffers, and if Nokia rewrite the code from scratch it will not be Symbian although you may still call it by that name.

6.Symbian is still the innovator OS and introduced things like .zip, .rar files, Bluetooth , USB otg, installing files of external memory(2.1 eclair does not),multitasking,FM transmitter and many more.
its not Symbian fault its the developers to match the competition.

7.conclusion- if Nokia make android phones we all gonna see a proper hardware war( I dont like it).all the people arguing on function Nokia provides as useless, one simple question- How can not having a feature is good than having it? Lets see what Nokia brings from windows.
