People who disrespect HTC shows their tiny brain.
So yeah... keep bashing, because HTC is long live!

And the article is represented with the One A9. Dam beautiful first class phone. It is slick fast and as beautiful as the day we got it. HTC are renowned for very high quality products over all. Some M series, One A9, 10, 11 Pixel etc. If only HTC had advertised more. It is not surprising Google took this opportunity to get something great. The HTC team will remain I would think as it is a good production team and now they have a great backer for more HTC and Googles.

The Google and HTC deal is official, it's just not quite what we were expecting. Google isn't buying HTC outright, à la Motorola, but is instead Google and HTC have signed an agreement to send some of HTC's employees over to Google, while HTC gets a $1.1 billion dollar cash infusion. The deal also includes a non-exclusive license for HTC's intellectual property.

HTC is still an independent company, and will still manufacture smartphones. Google is acquiring HTC's employees only, and not any of the Taiwan company's factories. Manufacturing facilities are more of a liability today in the smartphone business than anything, with even Apple, the king of vertical integration, outsourcing that work to companies like Foxconn.

What's an Android maker? There is only one creator of Android and that is Google. It's an OS not hardware.
HTC are on their knees, not making anything creatively new product-wise, so they are vulnerable to take over. A captive mfg capability is not particularly compelling for anyone incl Google but it might give them some useful patents before they do a Motorola and sell off the hardware facilities. GOOG is better off to engineer the product (like Apple does) and farm out the task of mfg to other parties on a bidding basis.

It's a badluck and irony when people talking history of Android and say: "....but the first android maker is dead?"
No, the first android maker saved by android OS owner.

Call me romantic, but that would've been better version of history

                          Will wait for official announcement

RIP HTC (the mobile brand), 2007-2017
Since 1997, the OEM/ODM HTC lives on...

First Android, Xperia, Nexus, and Pixel phone all made by HTC. Not branding their own phones anymore is nothing new to them. I hope Google saves them and combines the ideas of 2013's Moto X and HTC One M7.

This buyout has more potential than when Google purchased Motorola because it isn't for patents. Google will have its very own in-house manufacturing division. I would love them to revive the Nexus One design all over again.

                            Best phone designs ever
                            1. HTC One M7 (glacial silver)
                            2. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (titanium silver)
                            3. Apple iPhone 5s/SE (space gray).

Honorable mentions: iPhone 4/4s, Nexus One, Huawei P9 Plus (ceramic white), Sony Xperia Z3, Nokia N9/Lumia 800
