Every screen has a touch sensitivity if one adds it even with only software layer. It just measures the surface area in contact with the finger. The more of it there is, the harder you are pressing the screen. The less there is, the less you're pressing it. Not exactly rocket science. Not to mention long press basically does that anyway.

If someone put some amount of physical effort to do something, it must accomplish something (like Camera Shutter Click) and shall NOT lead to something else further. This method of 3D touch is mere long press and it is not doing anything special than Google Long Press (in Pixel and Nexus Phones in their 7.0 OS). It merely giving menu options like Google. Not a great feature.

I use my 3D touch all the time and is a great time saver for shortcuts and especially with pictures and websites. 3D touch doesn't just replicate a "long press" as in certain apps/sites/features its depends on how hard you press the screen too in order to get a certain result. Also if it was such a waste of time then why are Samsung and certain other Android manufacturers slowly implementing this tech into their handsets even though it's not fully supported by the stock Android software?

*IF* FaceID works like it was advertised, then yes, it is better than a fingerprint scanner. It just remains to be seen.

Apple is always making their unit unique. They don't want to be the same as what other smartphone has. Same like for the headphone jack, they removed it and make it their own.

If someone have any connections with internal people working at Apple then please tell them to quit Lightning Connectors and switch to USB 3.1 Type-C Connectors for the next iPhones , the whole world wants latest high speed industry standard USB Type-C Connectors on iPhones , please remove that 5 years old , slow and outdated Lightning Connectors , USB Type-C is the future , all android phones have it , Apple is very behind .

Anonymous, 21 Sep 2017... compared to just 2 pressures of Apple force touch... Not just 2 pressure points. Its fully capable of detecting more, just that it triggers at 2 different thresholds.
3D touch rely on a few tech..
1. haptic feedback. (not all have it)
2. Pressure sensor. (Which all new phones should have)
Apple is the first to give the illusion of hard press via the haptic feedback feeling.
However that said, it adds another layer of complexity to the user, whom they may or may not get it. So, this feature have being buried as a "shortcut feature or right click on mouse feature". And thus not very popular or used by apps often. SO its not really a good feature like the touchID, whereby everyone uses it.

Apple will be 3~5 years late figuring out how to include under screen scanner because of the thick 3d touch while others will start using under screen fingerprint scanner as soon as next year

What's next? DNA ID?
A phone that can prick your finger to unlock phone is great from Apple. That's most secure. Bring back Touch ID for that iPhone X.

AnonD-535480, 20 Sep 2017If Apple actually listened to it's users and people on foru... moreOkay not to that extent
But keep the 3.5 mm jack for example
Or at least make a seperate port which can be used for hearing music/movies etc along with charging simultaneously
Not bringing back the 3.5 mm jack is not listening to the users
Face ID
We all saw how 'good' its demo was
It may improve later but at least till it becomes good enough how about they keep touch id

Step back into. your time machine and go back to where you came from.
Long press replicates but its not the same. Hell even samsung copied force touch on s8.

Fingerprint security likely returns next year along with 4gb on the successor to the X. Skip the X because we all know Apple rehashes the same design for years but with improved internals and refined features. Face ID will get even faster as years goes by and harder to fool.
I cooled of getting iPhone X because I really do despise glass rears. I'm pretty content with my SE which is only used as an iPod touch because it's difficult to unlock it since it is an AT&T GoPhone that needs six months of service from them. But I prefer matte plastic or metal over glass any day. Glass makes it easier to dirty my other devices that hide smudges better because of sticky glass can get with just a little oil.
Just save $1000 bucks and wait on the s model for it. The X is like the 4, 5, and 6. Get the stronger twin will the the s model. X will only age as long as the 7+ and 8+. Like in laptops, the more RAM, the longer it will get updates. iOS is becoming more like Android and it needs more RAM. Not iust 3. It needs 4gb minimum for 64-bit. This is why the 5s and 6 are struggling with iOS11.
