I'm not sure if people realize that Apple did want to include the Touch ID, but it was simply not ready and they chose to only include the Face ID. Apple's decision to remove Touch ID was not voluntary, it was simply due to technological constraints.

Anonymous, 20 Sep 2017Its high time apple starts listening to its users prefernce... moreIf Apple actually listened to it's users and people on forums. We would all still be rocking some kind of BB clone with actual keyboards. They got taken to task by all the so called experts and advanced users when they introduced a touch screen smartphone. I went back during the 10th anniversary week to read some of the comments when the iPhone was introduced, boy it's funny reading those comments and predictions, good times lol.

Just stop using this expensive gimmick "Face ID" and "Force touch" and use the extremely advance technology like "home button under screen" and "screen long pressing" the same as android do for your next innovation.

Apple can just make 3D Touch and fingerprint scanner into one unit

Touch ID, Face ID then D...ID? Why keep changing this? What was wrong with Touch ID? You want to keep scanning faces and record? Something seriously not correct

"The in-display fingerprint reader reportedly remains a challenge as Apple’s 3D Touch makes the display panel thicker than on most phones."
Well, we all new 3D Touch was a flop right from the beginning, considering a simple long-press can easily replicate a clunky hard press (or Force Touch or whatever name you come up for it). Now even Apple knows that 3D Touch has flopped, considering they haven't mentioned a word about it in their recent presentation.
So I say, drop the 3D Touch gimmick altogether, and bring back the 3.5 mm headphone jack while you are at it.

I hope not. Maybe Apple has jumped the shark.
I guess I will hold on to my 7+ until it's no longer supported (4-5 more years?) and then move on to whatever doesn't want to scan my face.

It makes complete sense. Keep working on touchid under the display as a fallback option if faceid completely failed on the X.

Actually, the analyst said that Apple will put Face ID in all iPhones, *while* continuing research for an under-display fingerprint reader solution, and using it or not depending on what the public reaction to Face ID is.

Enough fingerprints catched, now we need to associate them with your face.
So we know about you more than yourself
