You can unlock your phone for free? And afterwards, you can get all those updates that carrier doesn't do? I have an iphone 5s. That has been locked for 2 years. After that. I requested for unlocking since the contract is finished. Then, for another 2 years. I manage to run my iphone 5s without any glitches or bugs.
"Doesn't it run the same os as 700$ one". Depends on the processor and the provider. Most smartphone manufacturers tend to use mediatek, hi-silicon, broadcom processor, pinecone, and other third party processor makers. Problem is it's after sales support. Majority of all android devices never gets any OS updates at all. Have you ever wonder why the most popular android version is the marshmallow? And not the nougat or the oreo? Most snapdragon powered smartphones gets updates. But most of them would only last for 2 years. Now did you ever wonder where's the android ARCore. Where it was to be released for those device running on nougat and oreo? How come it's not been released yet?
"My real question is why upgrade then? For better camera or selfies? I'd rather get an SLR"? LOL! WHEN IT COMES TO 2017 SPECS. YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT IT WON'T BEAT THE IOS 11. Here's the following reason since were talking about tablets:
1. Nvidia has tegra x1 which is for the shield console. So how come nvidia doesn't redesigned the shield k1. And make a tegra x1 tablet, which should've been announced and released last year?
2. The latest ipad brands from apple has quad stereo speakers. Shield tablet only has 2 front facing stereo speakers. So wouldn't it be louder if it has more speakers?
3. The ipad has 120hz pro motion display. This gives a 120hz screen refresh rate on ipad pro's. Shield tablet doesn't have this!
4. This year. Ipad pro 2017 comes with 512GB of internal storage. Which is far more than what could've shield tablet do. Especially the fact that shield tablet k1 has teeny weeny 16GB of internal storage. And with microSD support of only 128GB. Can you literally install all your favorite tegra apps on the nvidia shield tablet?
5. The latest ipad pro 9.7 inch has 8k+ mah battery. While the bigger one is higher. The shield k1 tablet only has 5,200 mah battery. Shouldn't it be the time to increase it to 7,000mah or better 8,000 mah battery capacity?
6. Camera improvements! And it's not for selfies! It's for the AR! Since apple is now developing a lot of AR apps on their A9, A10, and A11 ios powered device. And it has proven that this could push the AR development to a new heights. Meanwhile, android is still on the design phase of the ARCore. And did you know that if you wanna have a better AR experience. You need a powerful processor? And since its the year of dual camera design. Should be also included in the new nvidia shield tablet.
7. There's already bluetooth 5.0. And the shield tablet only has 4.0. This should improve the bluetooth connectivity.
8. Screen resolution is in needed of improvements. Since ipad pro's have "2732 x 2048 pixels" While the nvidia only has 1920X1080?
9. Shield tablet has no NFC. While the ipad pro. Has it.
10. It's been years since the type C reversible microUSB cable. And some of the manufacturers are now switching to reversible type C cablets. The shield tablet k1 only has microUSB cable. Which is not a reversible.

"FYI the Nvidia tegra x1 is used in Nintendo switch too and I'd bet that it has enough HP to run all the games there" Nintendo has their own OS ecosystem. Which makes every games released for the switch are as good as owning a console system because of optimization. However, there's only a handful of nintendo switch games on the market. While the android and the tegra appstore has millions of apps. So why the X1 tablet isn't introduce yet?
"So why can't it do so on Android where games are way less demanding?". Did you look at the app and games contents of the playstore? It has too many crappy apps and games! And only a handful of android games are deemed playable. While the apple has a bigger app and gaming ecosystem which mades the ios. The only OS in the world that has a lot of paid premium app developers than other companies.

      Warranty doesn't work for 2 years when next update messes up the phone. I know I have seen people with iPhone 5 and even sgs4 and happy with that but since you're specifically asking for the 1000$ phone, doesn't it run the same os as 700$ one(which apparently is upper midrange these days)
      FYI, does everybody in the world have shield tablet? Getting a shield tablet is now harder since its order basis.
      Does everybody in the world have iPhone? Shield is an Android tablet running on hardware and software enhancements by Nvidia. You can buy it if you want..
      That 2 year old GPU has enough HP for most of things to run. Just like iOS 11 can run equally well on iPhone 6s. My real question is why upgrade then? For better camera or selfies? I'd rather get an SLR

          You think that just because apple cannot transfer files from phone to pc and pc to phone without any use of software. Doesn't mean android is superior. Tell me, isn't that how android is mostly being targeted by hackers than ios?
          One more thing. If you use a cleanmaster or a Ccleaner on the android. After scanning the entire folder. You'll see that there are some apps or folders that shouldn't be there, exist? So tell me. How the hell are these hidden files and folders are made?

It gets far more optimization than the complex structure on android. Isn't fragmentation the primary problem of google? How would it be compatible with other device outside their system if the other program is a complex one?

                One things for sure on here, iPhone X may have won the poll over iPhone 8/8S but the readers who have commented really have no love for Apple. It would be interesting to know how many readers there are on GSMArena that way you could put the 17k into perspective. I'm sure a site like this must have hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide at least.

                  Would it ever run a desktop? FYI, Mobile processors has reduced instruction set computer or RISC. Which means the API is set to be used on a RISC device which could be a smartphone or a tablet. And Desktop processors have Complex instruction set computing or CISC. This is where the API uses CISC to run on a CISC device which could be a laptop, a desktop. or a hybrid laptop. So how would you be able to run a CISC program on a RISC smartphone? From the file extension itself. It won't be able to run on android or an IOS device since it uses .exe command to run the program.
                  Ask Nvidia shield for that. I run half life 2 and stream crysis from my 700$ PC. I know about RISC and cisc but at this juncture can't apple pretty much buy Activision Blizzard, valve and ea and be done with it? They have tablets and apple TV to sell for gaming.. yeah crysis is by different developer so I know that part is difficult but Still, what's the point of all that HP if you can't use it.... Plus emulators are awesome

                  And did you know that apple pays tons of money on developers?
                  Might as well buy them. Btw I know that they pay them a lot. But consider that Google is much more lucrative market due to sheer size. Even if 10% people buy from play store then that's 8 % market, compared to 12% of apple. I know iOS has exclusives but so do Android (ask Nvidia for that)

                      I see you bragging about this 64bit like it's a thing, even snapdragon 810 is an 64bit processor so what? Let's see the iphone being able to transfer files to, and from a pc without additional software. Cut the bull here.                         iphone x currently has best design imho, but the price didn't justify.
                        better wait for android phones to catch up, I'm sure in 2 years those bezel styles will become the norm, could get phone with similar design but less price.

If you don't plan to update your smartphone. You don't really encounter those problems of crashing apps. This is the reason why ios has more updates than what android could've done. And are prone to app crashes because of the updates. But that doesn't mean that the OS update sucks. Android smartphones who doesn't have much of an updates doesn't crashed easily. But as years go by. And the updates are piling up like hundred layers of updates. The app response time becomes sluggish. So it's still important to get updates so that your phone get's optimised.

For your info. , there are people who don't have time to carry PC with them, or wallet cards etc. All they do is have a data pack, and use it do download some stuffs on the go while travelling, but as known already, Not even God can do that in iphone!!! On top of that i have to pay even after buying device to download contents is just ridiculous. And i have to continue paying to apple for new device , for downloadable contents , for servicing every 3-4 years. i mean literally....not even poor beggar force the random strangers this hard. Just a simple eg. I can watch a you-tube video, while travelling, download it, save it, to watch again later. I found my memory full . i went to file manager deleted some stuff, and tried again ...success..Android rocks...and i phone..can't do anything like that..yeah i know, I am not that rich to throw money to buy that video in itunes..every few hours..I am not fool to spend my 50% income on apple...

So I don't have any problems with transfering the files from pc to my iphone/ipad. And you think I use an itunes to transfer video files to my ios device? I have an alternative itunes so that all I need to do is drag and drop. It also works on music files. So your mockering doesn't work on me cause I'm a heavy mobile hybrid user.

                                      2. Apple's Metal API, greatly improves gaming optimization and greater graphical load. Since 2014. Majority of the ios apps are now metal optimized. Meanwhile, Vulkan API was released since last year. Only 8 android apps were confirmed to be Vulkan optimized. After that. Did the number of vulkan optimized apps increased? NO.
