iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 now rule DxOMark's rankings with best smartphone cameras ever tested

22 September 2017
The iPhone 8 Plus is the current holder of the gold medal, while its smaller sibling takes silver.

Sort by:

Thats great for competition, especially if Note 8 scores lower, They will have to do something for Next year. But hey since when Sami cares about topping others in any aspect!?

If LG isn't even scoring 90, then take it with a grain of salt. LG cameras are superior to my Pixel. Dynamic range and video recording is where LG is mediocre at. The Pixel's video recording is very good though. Only iPhones and Note series come close to it.

There is no way that the iPhone 8+ camera is better than you HTC U11. I want to see it tested side-by-side with the V30 and the note 8.

Mapantz, 23 Sep 2017You've been reading other people's stupid comments and then... moreA sensor of 2015 is better than a old one from 2012, 2013.

        The f1.6 + 1/3" is worse than a f1.9 + 1/2.5" .
There is a nice trick, Samsung and LG uses high EV.
Even a Gran Prime can overexpose at night. It has f2.2

There is a proportion. The f1.6 for small sensor is not same of f1.6 for bigger sensor.
        Cameras use way smaller f. Like f3.8, f4.0, f5.0

Pixel has a 1/2.3" like Sony, it has same f2.0.
        Not a coincidence....

No phone does well in low light. Some phones do bad, other phones do ever worse.
Any phone on auto mode will use at least ISO 500, while others up to 1200.
Ppl just look at the phone and believe it is good.
Just check on a big screen to see how poor G4, G6 pics are..

What's the point of people fighting here for a phone which is gonna be a bad camera in next year compared to current phone. ^_-

              The breakdowns:

              CAMERA
              HTC U11 iPhone 8+
              Contrast 86 89
              Color 83 78
              Autofocus 90 74
              Texture 74 64
              Noise 62 68
              Artifacts 65 73
              Flash 79 84
              Zoom 29 51
              Bokeh 20 55

              OVERALL Score: 90 96

U11 wins significantly on color reproduction and auto focus
IP8 has the advantages on flash, zoom, and bokeh

              Which one is your preferences?

That is an absolute false statement when it comes to mobile photography. I'll give a small example, then you can go and look up the rest, because that's what you seem to do anyway.

The Nokia 808 had a f/2.4 aperture, and a very large 1/1.2 in CMOS sensor with 1.4 µm pixels. While at the time, low light pictures were very good, and ahead of the competition they cannot compete with other devices that have apertures of f/1.8 and below, with smaller sensors and 1µm pixels. The V30's pre-production low light samples already look far better than the G6's for example. It's that f/1.6 aperture with glass lens that is doing the trick. In future, don't fall for the same rubbish that other people spout elsewhere.

Dxomark has changed recently. Now includes bokeh and zoom and values are different.

Nice to have a camera you always carry with yourself that takes beautiful pictures. But when going on a vacation or anything of that sort, I'll always carry a dedicated camera. I reached this conclusion when I got Sony A6000 and compared the pictures from it and Samsung Galaxy S7 (last year photography flagship, or one of them) directly on the phone. Phone has cool effects but camera wins quality-wise and by the amount of details, hands-down.

Top in DxOMark ratings? All I see is small sensor/s and mono audio. Even XA1 is better.
