Bonji, 26 Sep 2017This is a very very very sad move from Sony. The dimentions... more0.1 inch more screen (diagonal) make it 0.4 inch higher and 0.1 inch wider.
Without even bringing all the issues with the Apple ecosystem (starting with the infamous iTunes), size-wise the iPhone 7/8 clearly show what an achievement the XZ1 Compact is. And this with better IP protection, with SD-card tray, with dual speakers, and less expensive (but, of course, no appel on the back)... And iPhone 7/8 if (by far) the closest "compact" high-end phone.
The problem with big phones does not only lie in "small hands", IMO is also lies in "jeans pockets". Being able to keep my phone without constant fear of bending it, this is worth a smaller screen.
Of course I'd appreciate if they'd been able to cram a larger screen in the same dimensions (a small bezel seems useful to hold the device, still), but so far no one, absolutely no one does better. No one has a phone that is that small with high-end specs. All other high-end phones are huge, all other small phones have low-level specs.

If manufacturers start catering to each and every persons whims and fancies..... we will end up phones with 4.7", 4.75"(perfect for somebody else:)), 4.65" (perfect or some body who thinks 4.7" is big but 4.65" is perfect)

that is because they have more volume to fit components.
For 4.6 inch, you dont have enough 3d volume to make it less bezel...
May be sony could have made bezelless in xz1 but it is not possible to do it in 4.6 inch phone... Sharp has done earlier but it had to sacrifise a lot many features.
Show me one idiot manufacturer who is making compact high-spec phones... forget compact high end phones with less bezel.
SONY is doing GREAT job... it not about being fan of sony. it is about no option but to choose the only manufacturer who is the only one to make high spec compact phone... when all other manufacturers are running away from compact phones.... (except once upon a time sharp.... and iphone SE... but that comes with too small screen and IOS restrictions)

Screen to body ratio: 10% ja ja ja ja ja... I guess Sony´s life hangs from the loyalty of a few remaining fans (who happen to like rectangular blocks with huge outdated bezels nobody else really likes)

This is a very very very sad move from Sony. The dimentions are accurate battery size is ok for the size but what happened to screen size?? Its too much less, ios itself has moved to a minimum of 4.7" and here sony has a 4.6" with an inferior resolution which is really not ok for the price. The camera lacks ois - blurry images @ night will be the sony owners treat. Fir that size @ least a 4.7" with oled display enhanced with triluminos engine with same resolution, just a 16mp camera with ois autofocus and just 240fps slow motion, autofocus capable front camera similar or about 2900mah would have made this a real iphone competor and it would have been clearly worth the price tag. No comparison with OP5 op5 is far better for this price ( yes size is a problem but the resolution is also good dual camera good os massive battery and a lot more). Sony has done something very wrong. This phone can be good only in hands of a Sony Fan even as a mild fan i am purely dissapointed. Better luck next time.

1ns0mniac, 26 Sep 2017You are absolutely right. That's the beauty of Android. The next step for oem's is to make a phone with dual dolby atmosphere speakers, offer a joy pad kit a la Xperia and Motorola style, quad dac 32 bit hi res audio, a 3900 mah battery better than Snapdragon 845 soc.
