Operators have to look into new modulation technique like OTFS (that will overcome the bottleneck that 4G/4G+ has today).
Better Latency, Throughput, Mobility, Spectral efficiency in sub 6GHz band.

We need 4x4 MIMO in india in order for 4g to be at a stable 25Mbps on 5MHz spectrum. Currently jio gives 2x2 MIMO which is actually choked down by too many users. Same for Airtel and Idea.
Jio is planning 64x64 that's 128 antenna MIMO, but we should expect it by 2020 and not so soon. You'll get over 50Mbps constant without any fluctuations in the cities where around 10k people are staying next to the tower.

With advent of Jio in India, 4G is dirt cheap, even cheaper than 2G before it.

The concern is still the same as ever though, how to maintain reliability? Sometimes, the internet just doesn't work, other times, it works at turtle pace.
      From my experience,
10% of the times, 4G works as claimed.
About 85% of the times, its underperfoming.
And 5% of the times, it fails. Just fails.

This is continuing since ages now, in the Indian market. Hope carriers don't get greedy with 5G and burden it with huge number of customers...

LOL relax guys, even in London, UK 4G is over hyped. The typical average speeds i get is 50Mb/s up/down, that basically what i used to get on 3G with good signal..)upload was probably half that)

Sachi, 03 Oct 2017There is no Voice call support over 4G in India. Except Vol... moreBuy any VoLTE device then switch off data, you will still be able to make and receive calls on Jio network, no need to turn on mobile data.

And Airtel 4G VoLTE is live in mumbai so it does not fall back to 3G when making calls. Testing is going on in many other cities as well.

Airtel 4G always changes to 3g during voice calls. To test it, I changed the settings to 4G only in my phone hidden settings and guess what, only 4G data works, if I call from another phone, my 4G num is unreachable.

So Airtel 4G falls back to 3G for voice calls.

In jio, if you turn off data connection you can't call

So does the other guys too I think. So India is still in half baked 4G, forget about 4G speeds, the 4G technology itself isn't properly implemented yet.

ZTE is officially present in India

May be one 4G tower in 5 kms which equates to high user density on single tower. Currently in many areas 4G behaves like 2G (using most advertised Airtel). No quality of service.

most people do not know the difference between 2G 2.5G (edge) 3G 3.5G 4G 4G+ (LTE-A) etc i almost never see 2G or 2.5G in the places i travel in india. (which is mostly urban) sure the 4G speeds are no where where they should be.. with sometimes 3.5G getting better performance! Also the main problem i have with 4G is it switches down sometimes to 2G for voice ..

In India 4G network speed hits a max of 50mbps(RJio is an exception). While in other countries it hits around 200mbps. Expecting 5G to be faster than this.
