It would be maybe 2, 3 or 4 mm thicker, nobody would care. What I want with a stylish phone that produces bad photos and has a tiny battery? For people like you they could produce "cool looking", very thin phones, too. Sadly there´s no choice anymore cause those companies are all about $$$, which I explained before.

In fact, the iPhone 7 I had seemed better. Really bad results from Apple. They keep using these tiny sensors that are made for selfies.

Sure we can fit every little thing in there but the phone would be huge. It's not so much about the money, as it is about making the phone slim and cool looking while having a million different sensors or larger batteries in.

@Lex79 I don´t like it cause I want better picture quality. And for that the size of the sensor matters in combination with algorithms. Today it would be even easier to implement bigger sensors. There are simply financial aspects not to use it.

AnonD-660035, 08 Oct 2017Why we are still some way off lager sensors? We had larger ... moreYeah, we have had larger sensors on devices like the Nokia 808 and but that came with its own draw backs. In effect that was just a camera with limited smartphone functionality bolted onto the back.
Proper intergration of larger sized sensors into modern form factor devices remains a technical difficulty, and oem’s are instead pursuing other solutions like multiple sensors, computational photography etc.
Xenon also has its downsides, power drain, Discolouration of image under certain circumstances etc.
Not saying there is right or wrong way going forward, but it does seem that the various oem’s have made up their mind, xenon continues to be a no no, and larger sensor sizes are not in the plans as yet.
Personally I’m liking what I am seeing from google in terms of computational photography.

We even had xenon flash and optical zooms. Funny, isn´t it? There are no real technical reasons for not using it. It´s all about profits and cashflow and not about real progress. And that´s the problem.

If I wasn't so satisfied with my current phones released last year, my top 2017 picks would look like this -
1. LG V30 (Moroccan blue)
2. Apple iPhone X (Silver)
3. Google Pixel 2 XL (Panda color)
Pixel 2 XL moves up over the Nokia 8 just for the camera alone. But I already have an unlocked G5 (silver) which is my favorite smartphone ever. I already have a T-Mobile V20 (titan) and AT&T iPhone SE (space gray) that both got unlocked. All don't have glass rears that get sticky over time which is why I sold my S7 edge last week.
The SE is my current daily driver while I try to use my LG phones more sparingly to prolong their lives. I just got a feeling the iPhone X will be much more improved next year and the camera current X feels like beta testing for guinea pigs. And with Galaxy X around the corner, foldable displays that can be fold multiple times can make all current phones feel outdated.
I guess DxO wasn't wrong. Google will continue to be among the best in mobile photography. And another advantage Pixel has whether you get it at the Google store or Verizon. Unlocked and no carrier bloatware. Only Android smartphone in the USA that is like that with a US carrier similar to iPhones. I would get another Pixel but it can't be recognized on my MacBook Air at all.

These samples are quite varied I thought, they appear to be selected to show the new Pixels capabilities in colour rendering, white balance, dynamics range and with a couple thrown in to showcase the ‘portrait’ capabilities.
Sure, it’s right to be skeptical when oem’s shown off their own samples, but based on how well the pixel last year performed, I’d say it looks like these new devices should be very capable shooters.
Besides we’re still some way off larger sensors in smartphones (beyond 1/2.3) according to the experts, and oem’s are putting more effort into getting better results out of more commonly seen standard sensor sizes (1/3.06 - 1/2.3).

Those pics aren´t that impressive as some people believe. Maybe the locations are. Most of them are daylight, in daylight most phones can produce nice photos. I hoped for a bigger sensor and a great lens for better low light performance. Instead they use now an even smaller sensor with smaller pixels. What all those companies deliver for those prices is more a joke than impressive.

Every manufacturer shows impressive edited daylight photos, all flagships can do that, it's only a matter of unique and exotic location of the photo. But when it comes to night photos, its the same grainy, overprocessed mistake. It's like trying to squeeze 5 litres of juice out of 1 apple

Look at the level of details in the samples. I'm impressed as a pixel peeper. It's pretty great. The dynamic range is also damn impressive for a phone. Much better than I've seen on many phones. The samples seems to be taken by an experienced photographer. If these are really taken with the Pixel 2, Google surely has a winner in its hand.

beebop, 08 Oct 2017Ugh, I know this comment is off the topic but, can anyone t... moreAs far as I remember (without searching the web), the difference is that ip 68 has a water proof in that it can stay stood in water under 1 meter for 30 minutes while ip 67 can hold for less time under less than 1 meter, so if the smartphone with ip67 or ip 68 drop into a a bathtube then it would be easily take it in a minutefrom there with no damages
But if it went for like 20 minutes under that water then ip 67 would be damaged.
