HTC should have followed the Apple model a number of years ago - focus on just 1 model, a flagship, per year. Keep the model around for 3 years, dropping pricing and market tier annually, as their next model launches. They should have devoted a sizable team to software updates, dedicating that team to providing timely security updates, and at least 3 major OS releases (such that even those buying on year 3 will receive 1 major revision bump). Let the economics of scale over 3 years take care of the low margin entry tier, while pursuing the higher margin upper tiers. Also: innovation is great, but not at the expense of other features, and larger batteries at the expense of a few mm thickness is an acceptable trade!

AnonD-1825, 11 Oct 2017Next year we might see Sony, LG and HTC mobile business com... moreSony was doing a bit bad but who knows if that was a product of not updating the appearance of their phone for years. They tend to have good hardware, cameras and overall features but just need to spit shine their UI and phone design which is what should hopefully happen on the next release. After that they will have looked like they put some effort in, LG is sort of trying to just improve and be solid but there's no real turn around I can see ahead for them. If people aren't buying LG then they aren't and they put out good phones so they need something special to turn it around.

18:9 display (maybe a little round in edges) combination with liquid surface would make the most beautiful phone yet(which is s8 for now). HTC did some great job in camera department, but dual cameras will be nice (or at least some portrait mode like pixel 2)

I am happy to hear that. HTC offers great, innovative products. They deserve every bit of the success.

[deleted post]....and with 32GB of storage, LCD display, no fingerprint scanner, bad photo post-processing performance, all for £899 !!!

But at least it ships with the most expensive camera module (IMX 408 bragging rights), some consideration for structural sturdiness, and I guess they still do have a tasteful OS that is the most stable and proven software support for 2-years.

AnonD-1825, 11 Oct 2017Next year we might see Sony, LG and HTC mobile business com... moreChinese companies do not have the reach of their products like the others do. They are very much region specific and very hard to get hold of at times, whereas you can go anywhere and pick up a sony or HTC device.

I see HTC just getting stronger actually.
They did a great job with he 10. The U11 is very different, the marriage with Google and we type this on the One A9. Still as pretty, solid and fast as the day it was bought.

Did you see vivo, Oppo smartphones in USA, UE ? Where ? How much did they sell in USA, UK, Germany, France ?! I would like to see sales statistics only for so-called Western world. And how much does the average cost phone in the US, Canada, Japan, Italy, Britain, Germany, France, and how much in India or in China.

AnonD-1825, 11 Oct 2017Next year we might see Sony, LG and HTC mobile business com... moreExcept Huawei, all other chinese brands barely sell phones outside China/India.
A 300 dollars flagship does not bring profits enough to keep going on for many years.
                            One+ 5 started at 500 already.

Example, price to built a S7 is more than 200 dollars. How is supposed to sell for 350 like a Mi5?

These phones cost less because they are way worse.

Sorry but compare Mi6, OP5, Nubia Z17 or any Oppo flagship to S8, XZ Premium, U11, Z2 Force , P10 or V30 is a joke...

                              Sony ? Even less likely

Both them have other means of profit other then just mobile phones
Eg: sonys camera lenses and lgs electronics and tvs
