I'm receiving my iPhone 7 replacement on Monday; I hope I can restore my iCloud backup from my iPhone 5S (whose battery is now f*cked up with iOS 11), without updating the 7 to iOS 11.

What I said is my personal experience and you might experience them differently. The android vs iOS rivalry is good for consumers. I always loved Symbian and wanted it to evolve in the face of Meego maybe. Right now we are stuck with just 2 and they are competing against each other. We can't afford to lose another platform.
I use what I love and I don't need your certificate to prove anything.

I experience minor to major lag everyday here and there on my nexus - from stock keyboard to switching between apps. So people who claim that the skins are the reason for the lag should know that no, they are not. Theres more to it.
Im no fanboy here. I love both the platforms for their strengths and what they can do.
However, lag-free user experience is not android’s strength here.

I myself used to think that the skin that they put on (any manufacturer and not just Samsung) is the real culprit for that lag. I was wrong though. Android is by design plagued with lag which is hard to be fixed.
For example if I play Snake.io on my Nexus 6P (stock Oreo Os with no skin on top) it starts to lag like hell! On the other side, it plays very fluid on my iPhone 6s. Interestingly, the first screenshot of the said app on App Store reads like “No Lag!”. Nuff said.

I had an S7 edge and after an update to Nougat,the keyboard got laggy. Users suggested to turn off auto capitalize which actually worked. Now I a got an S8 plus aaand... and I can still feel the lag on the keyboard. I haven't seen anything about it on Samsung members community . And ooh I don't know what's wrong but I can't find the option for the community in the latest update of the app.
Guess Samsung thought, we might gang up and go for their heads🙄🙄🙄

If you change the launcher to nova,you will be amazed how fast it is. Now I'm using samsung s3 with nova launcher,what can i say is it's fast than before and still usable after 4 years using and until now lol. Ios contains so many bugs and apps frequently crashed in ios than android. The low specs inside iphone forced people to buy new iphone for new little upgraded specs and after 2 or 3 years you have to buy new one again. You still don't see the tricks?

The S8 lags even with the native apps just after 3 months of purchase and I don't expect any update from Samsung to rectify it. At least Apple works hard to remove bugs and make the OS stable.
There is nothing like slowing down the iPhones. When there is a new update then there are newer APIs, higher graphics requirements, apps etc. Obviously, they would not work as snappy as with the latest hardware.

That had less ram and available specs. Then claim is because it's optimized and doesn't need specs. And all the users restate this and defend them. And even if it were true which it's not that still doesn't change the future proofing and cost effectiveness.
So they tell you its fine, give it less ram, then the apps crash more, and it slows down a lot.
Which happens to all devices. But it's more planned with apple. And by their own claims and all the fans defending them that's not supposed to happen. It's supposed to stay zippy and perfect for years to come because iOS is so much lighter and optimized....
