Anonymous, 16 Oct 2017So the edge screen gimmick is groundbreaking? The half-bake... moreIf that ugly aspect ratio isn't ground breaking why would Apple and LG started to use it? Or Sony in 2018 according to its own executive? Oh that ugly aspect ratio will become ground breaking when Sony releases one of their own version of bezel less phone. Edge screen is sure gimmick but it makes the phone more beautiful and compact. I didn't say Samsung above all..It is just doing what is required to get more profits than many of the android OEMs.

imRGZ, 14 Oct 2017Yeah, i see it's the only possible way for Sony to get some... moreSo the edge screen gimmick is groundbreaking? The half-baked Bixby is groundbreaking? The ugly screen ratio is groundbreaking? The bloatwares and LAGGY UI is groundbreaking? Well, except for the exynos chips 'coz somewhat ity has what it takes but still behind Apple's. Don't treat Samsung as superior and as god coz Samsung will never be!

AnonD-695347, 13 Oct 2017Can you please enlighten me on this "Dark secret of Samsung... moreNot sure what he was referring to, but it could be the bribery, or tax evasion, or workers dying from leukemia, or connection to the past military dictatorship, or the rampant copying, maybe trying to use SEPs as weapons, or how they tried to extort Nokia. Maybe there's something else that I missed.

Tann Hauser, 13 Oct 2017Android world would be faaar better off without Samsung... ... moreYou wanted that it was Sony, the company with no profits with no sales, one bankrupt company? You don't understand that the world changed in the passed around 15 years? Samsung about 15 years ago have become more important than Sony.

I think Samsung will do just fine. They can find another CEO to fill the gap, and I also think the best is yet to come. There is no need for Samsung to be defunct. They manufacture the most smartphones in the world. They have the best screen on a smartphone(LG needs more green subpixel from what I've heard, and I'm waiting for Sony to make a competitor). They also make their own silicon. Sure, they have appliances among other things. Samsung needs to be the top smartphone and AMOLED manufacturer. Every other company is aiming for the top, but they are unique and are not looking for the market share.

Tann Hauser, 13 Oct 2017Android world would be faaar better off without Samsung... ... moreYeah, i see it's the only possible way for Sony to get some sales and attention. So much desperation for your brand right? Hoping that absence of a company will make your brand most sought after? It's Sony's fault in not upping their game and stay profitable in business and it shows in their revenues solely depending on their entertainment and camera sensor business profits. All over the world there are very very few people who consider Xperias in the same breadth as Galaxy S/iPhones. If not for Samsung, name one android phone company which can put a fight and still stand against the might of Apple in flagship segment? Android market is oversaturated. Someone needs to bring something new to survive and Samsung is just doing that, it doesnt matter how many of them are useful, at least half of them are as per me. Sony? Nothing ground breaking.

As it seems Samsung has already been peaked and it never managed to overtake Apple - not in sales but profits. Whatever Samsung tried it was always second to Apple. Now the crisis is that the Chinese have caught up with Samsung and when they increase production and distribution around the world Samsung will sink. It has already sunk in China and in Sourh East Asia where the likes of Oppo and Vivo are selling like hot cakes at expense of Samsung. Then there may be a black swan event if, for example, Apple stops getting components from Samsung. Not to mention that other companies will eventually catch up with Samsung’s chip and screen business. That’s why he says that he wants new people with new ideas. The old model has been peaked with some success but just some. It hadn’t been terribly successful. He can see what is coming and simply admits that he can’t do it.
