John snow, 14 Oct 2017Oh I see, i was not aware of that. That makes perfect sense... moreAh, ok, i know what you mean. I think we have different opinions on what always on is or what glance is. Yes, symbian was the first system with something like this. But was not called Glance or Always on. I actually do not remember the name. Still have my nokia n8 tough. :). I was a symbian fanatic, and kind of still am biased towards symbian. That system will never be forgotten, best in class.

I definitely would've bought Nokia 8 had it had an AMOLED screen. I had Nokia E7 in 2011 which had an Always On kind of screen saver that pretty much worked the same way Samsung's Always On works now. After using an lcd display for 3 years after E7 I knew I can't live without Always On anymore and ended up buying Galaxy S8 mostly because of the screen.
Hopefully we'll see Nokia-HMD return to AMOLED with Nokia 9. I'm still at August security patch with my S8 while the Nokias are apparently already getting an October patch. Damn you Samsung.

Quick Note: I had "Always on" feature on my Nokia N8 (I'm kinda used to it), this feature dates back before the creation of Lumia phones.

OnePlus 5 or Nokia 8 is $550, so it's cheap and affordable, but you will not get as great features as iPhone X. So which is the perfect flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy S8 at $750!!!!!!!!!!

John snow, 14 Oct 2017As i mentioned "Always on display" takes it downhill, most ... moreI do not consider my self rude, but thanks for the observation. Anyway, Nokia does not have "always on" thing that Samsung has, it actually has glance. Glance was first implemented in lumia phones way, way before any android ever though about doing something like this. It is way smarter then "always on" and consumes less battery. Yes would have consumed even less with and amoled, but at a such low rate is in fact unoticeble, just cause it turns of when in the pocket;). or after a time given. turning back on when the proximity sensor senses movement. So, will not consume way more then an amoled, i dare to say, that does not reach the 1 percent more;). So yeah, i need a phone to last while in use not while in standby, in standby they all last;).

John snow, 14 Oct 20171. I tried to but i coudn't find any videos comparing the s... more"Crossing fingers for Nokia 9 but i'm afraid it'll be priced close to Pixel2XL / LGV30 / Note8"
That'll be way too much of a risk. Between the 3, personally I find that LG V30 ticks the right balance but only better for the impending markdowns in the coming weeks. P2XL asks for an Apple tax/premium without the same Apple international sales and support presence + "off the shelf" SoC (sorry but that's what Snapdragons are; a thing that other OEMs can use too) + lack the same vertical integration and after all things considered even an iPhone is an overpriced piece of tech. Note 8 good as it is to me is just a slightly more expensive S8+ with a stylus.
What Nokia can do with Nokia 9 is to at least just guarantee that they're able to match up to AOSP's speed for OS + software updates, longevity AND a hefty sized battery. That'll be more than enough to reel in the more serious users instead of the trendy ones.

Boogieman, 13 Oct 2017Did You check out the Nokia 8 display and compare it with t... more1. I tried to but i coudn't find any videos comparing the screens of IPS LCD and AMOLED of Nokia 8/LG G6. On paper specs are only there to compare. Contrast ratio of Nokia 8 is 18k and that of LG G6 is 2k where as AMOLEDs have infinite.
Screen: Nokia8 < LGG6 < AMOLEDs(QHD)
2. 700nits is impressive but sunlight legibility is the important that needs to be considered because no one uses screen as a light source. Again : Nokia8 < LGG6 < AMOLEDs(QHD).
3. LGG6 supports HDR, many AMOLEDs support VR. You guessed it: Nokia8 < LGG6 < AMOLEDs(Depends on model of course).
I am a long term Nokia fan than you can imagine, i'm still using a Nokia made device. And was waiting for Android line up since i heard. Nokia 6 was disappointment (SD6xx is minimum for me). Had high hopes for Flagship, it checked most of the boxes but not all for the same price(IP68,AMOLED,etc).
Crossing fingers for Nokia 9 but i'm afraid it'll be priced close to Pixel2XL / LGV30 / Note8.

John snow, 13 Oct 2017Wish there they slapped an amoled on thisDid You check out the Nokia 8 display and compare it with the AMOLED counter parts?
If not I propose You do. I compared it with Note8 and LG G6.
Nokia 8 colours are a lot more correct and the peak brightness is Insane.
Note and G6 wins in contrast of course, but its nothing that You will se in normal light, but if your a midnight surfer You will notice it.
I generally prefer AmoLed, but after I saw the Nokia 8 i had to think again, its really something else, everything is crisp, spot on and very natural. If You like over emphasized unnatural colours (a lot of people run dynamic mode on their TVs allthough it totally destroys the image) then go for the G6, something in between the Note and for real life screen the Nokia 8

Bires, 13 Oct 2017Tried the Nokia 8 today... was shocked to find that it was ... moreAll high specced phones (SOC 835) heat up - no matter which brand.
The big difference with the Nokia is that it cools the processor much more effective than others due to:
1. Heat pipe (other have this too, but not such a wide full coverage heat pipe)
2. Graphite heat spreader (Thats a first in a smart phone and is really clever since it spreads the heat even more even over the back of the phone)
A 2nd advantage of Nokias solution is that You heat up the bak evenly, meaning that You dont get any "hot spots" (normally those are where the processor is located on other brands) AND the average temperature is lower (since the same amount of heat/energy is spread over a bigger area).
Pick up a Samsung or LG and run i.e. a benchmark and You will notice that those get hot spots, while the entire Nokia 8 feals luke warm over the back.
