Flossy420, 17 Oct 2017Where are those who said kirin 970 will beat the A11 chip? ... moreare you dumb? It's a pre release unit and who said that benchmark is parameter of capability?? It's just a sign that device is powerful or not. Pixel 2 series and mate 10 series can easily beat iPhone 8 in performance test. IPhone is only for benchmark and some very heavy games. Others destroy iPhone in everything other segment.

2. Benchmarks are not the real reflectors of performance. Even honor 8 pro beats last year's iPhone 7 which had fantastic benchmark scores. Ask gsmarena if benchmarks really reflect real capability of a device. You will get one answer - "NO Absolutely Not"

This is a pre release unit, so after minor optimisation it can definitely work better. Real world performance and long lasting capability is what most important and there, even honor 8 pro defeated last year's iPhone 7. IPhone is only good in benchmark and games, in all others, other biggies are much ahead

Zenodroid, 17 Oct 2017The p10 plus with 960 can follow up with the 835 in everyth... moreyou are correct. The fact is, benchmark is only a pinch of salt. It's NOT the parameter of real capability. It's a pre release unit, so it can perform better in selling units and also this AI chip will remain in the same speed even after 18 months. So it's clear that This Kirin 970 is best in the business

Hey, but that "smart machine" just carries a "1080p" screen so it's a bit unfair some of those test don't you think so?

Meh, its a 1080 screen pushing less pixels than all the leading flagships. How about Huawei throw a 2k screen at the Kirin, and see how it goes.. I'm guessing it will struggle..

In the GFX page, it loses in every offscreen benchmark to the pixel 2 XL

And there goes the same scenario, the SDdragon 835 may appear slightly ahead in some scenarios but we will see youtube reviews where the Mate 10 series will smoke the likes of Note 8, pixels 2 in real life performance!! That i can assure everyone.

So it sounds like you are the benchmark follower that trust it more than reality. P10 plus and op5 runs all my apps and games smoothly and in the same quality. Nokia 8 with 835 have some random lag problems tho, that the other 2 brands doesn't.

Akinaro, 17 Oct 2017Those benchmarks are more annoying every month...
Look. ... moreLook, the iPhone have had the most powerful cpu's since 2013 with the 5S 64bit cpu. The only score Qualcomm and all the rest did better was in multicore score, and that was because Apple never let all their cores run at the same time in order to save battery. The A11 finally lift that restriction and it confirm what all of us suspected for awhile, which is the moment they let all the cores loose they would also kick everyone else's behind up there too. So, this is not news to anyone who have been following this the past few years. It was only a matter of when Apple decided to lift that restriction.
It has nothing to very little to do with ram, of screen resolution etc... it's all about silicon, the chip size and costs. Since Apple do not have to sell their chips and make money off of them, they can spend more on their silicon whereas Qualcomm do. That basically sums up why Qualcomm chips will not match Apple's anytime soon. Maybe Google can eventually give Apple a run, but that push will not come from Samsung or Qualcomm and all the rests and the android oem's.
