eventually? I think they made this statement to cover themselves..lies besides that have you seen what happens to a phone when its upgraded and does not have enough memory it becomes a very nice looking paper weight.(mytouch 1.2 was and still is horrible after it was updated)

To be honest the lack of memory statement may be true if they going to use desire S gingerbread for desire. My desire S has about 250mb free. desire s has 768mb ram compare to desire 512mb ram. In order words desire has 256mb ram less compare to desire s. Which means htc has to do quite a bit work to trim down their sense ui otherwise desire will be struggling to run "fat" gingerbread.

HTC - WTH?
In order for a company to maintain credibility they have to give their products some longevity - it's good that HTC are listening to users, but worrying that they were on the brink of NOT bringing gingerbread to the Desire.
I have less faith in HTC than I had, for sure. I'm 8 months away from an upgrade, and will be considering other suppliers. I want longevity and ongoing support - I'd expect it for a £400 computer, I demand it for a £400 phone.

HTC lied and thought they could get away with it. Even though they've changed their minds and will bring Gingerbread to Desire, that's not enough for me. I want a statement which says 'sorry we lied to you' but obviously this won't happen. HTC, their CEO and senior management have hit a low...

"We will not update Desire with gingerbread" says HTC, then someone from there accidentally find XDA forum part, where 2.3.3 for desire is the standard now.
