Anonymous, 20 Jun 2011WRONG AGAIN, GPU handles video recording, as suggested here... moreSO you think a GPU, single-handeldly can record video... come on, you need several of runnings services in the CPU. And the higher resolution, the more strain to the cpu!
So how do you find all your running apps in a Android phone?
If you use a third party task manager, you should soon see it abtually also lists applications that are not running.
And services you say, that is not the same thing as an app.
And as I told you, it gets quite clear when you leave games, without exiting, and they have to reload as soon as you go back. Clearly they are not runing in the background.
Nokia has already bought a platrofm, on which they have developed phones. They cant switch SOC, without taking phones back in to development. So of course they will use ARM11 chips until they release next generation of products.
So you think the Arm11 chip that nokia uses is a hot item? Who else is using them today?
No, the main production lines have switched to cpus with higher clock.
Thus the price goes up, or at least stand still, while faster chips goes down in price, to a level beneath.
This is a problem that makers of electronic instruments, and hifi-makers have to deal with, quite a lot. The chip they used in the begining is now expensive, or you cant even get hold of it anymore. So you have to switch. Not always for the better.
The link you sent, said class 6 SD card, not class 10.
And no, its not optimized for N900.
Why do you go around thinking that a OS that is run from a micro SD card is optimized for the device. And clearly that is not the finished products. It doesnt support widgets, even.
Optimizing an OS for a phone takes several of months. So ofcourse they will not optimize a MeeGo version fully for a development release of an os, to a phone that will be long since of the market, when the OS is released.
Are you confused?
AMOLED does cost more than TFT displays. Sure, Super Amoled is even more expensive.
But when you compare the price to an N900, all it has in an old resisitiv tft touchscreen, and you have to take the price of that at the point of release and compare it to the AMOLED unit in the N8. And The N8, even though the resolution is lower, has a more expensive display.
Aluminium isnt very expensive, but much more expensive than plastic. And the Anodized aluminium in N8 is more expensive than just untreated aluminium.
No the sensor does not make up for the price of the phone, as mentioned, there are other more expensive components used.
And surely you are paying extra for the man hours that went in to perfecting the camera.
Also it has HDMI-port. USB-otg compatible port. N900 didnt.
I never said that the 680Mhz chip is cheaper today.
But you dont seem to understand that prizes go down. And you talk about 2009, and 2010. This is 2011, but back then, they sure were more expensvive. And when the N8 was developed during 2009 and 2010, that chips was still cheaper.
Please get this in to your head, the N8 can playback 720p videos. Surely internal, they will be downscaled, as the display doesnt support the full resolution.
But as Ive already said, downscaling actually uses more CPU/GPU power than playing at native resolution.
When connected thru HDMI port, the N8 actually sends a full 720p signal.
N8 is very capable of playing 720p videos. However there is a limit to the maximum size of the clip. But 720p it does.
It doesnt do 1080p, and it cant send 1080p thru HDMI. But 720p, it hadles.

Basically what you get when you pair a s40 with a large screen and large processor, is what apple started out with their first iPhones. If Nokia can add a QT like system for running apps and perhaps basic multitasking this could actually be a winning concept, if the pricing is right….I must add :-)

If this is true, nokia will be the founder of the smartfeature phone. This phone will be the next generation feature phone. Don't worry, I think this S40 will surely have multitasking. I hope nokia will do that with their smartphones

If this is accurate it's a good indication that QT will be supporting S40 and perhaps basic multi tasking will be added to the OS aswell.

sure buddy and jon, java is a platform independent language, so as long as the OS you are talking about-be it android or linux- has the java virtual machine (JVM) it will compile and run it. And for the multi-tasking,as long as you can switch between two running applications, it's classified as multi-tasking. Your argument should hve been which is better in multi-tasking... For your information, there,s no computer that does two things at a time using one processor.
