After AMD introduce Ryzen which have 200% power of their predecessor, Intel can immediately release 8th gen core with 50%+ more power then 7th gen(It could have more power if Ryzen were even stronger). So they already have more advance technology in their hand but release all of them at once won't make highest profit. That's why Intel customer can enjoy 10% performance increase every year while AMD was struggle to make competitive product.

Snapdragon 8xx SOC includes modem, provides better power performance and overall cost saver for handset manufacturer. Key handicapp is the OS especially Android have not been able to optimize and migrate majority of handset to latest os.

The last few Intel CPUs have been very small gains.
The x86 and ARM are both getting close to their limits.

Qualcomm is becoming the AMD of phone chips. Constant releases but always smaller improvements. It took us almost a decade to get a ream jump in amd performance, he way Qualcomm goes it may take us as lon (sd 835 virtually same performance as sd821).
By comparison Apple chips from being behind qualcomm are now to the moon, merely because they.never.stopped advancing their chips.
I am not excited by SD845 as the name suggests it would be anouther 8xx chips so hardly jump. Last jump was between SD600 and SD800 (maybe SD820 too but that was all because SD 810 was actually worse than SD 805 in real performance ... tru story)
