I am sad to see OnePlus at this time like not caring about what people think is still very important, I feel OnePlus has lost its own characteristics. I want OnePlus to follow Samsung's way of not copying other manufacturers and brands and always be persistent in maintaining their characteristics

2) Apple have a significant resources to come up with new technology that is backward compatible. I doubt that all that engineering talent at Apple could not make a 3.5 jack be supported while providing users with superior Bluetooth/USB-C options... Unless giving both options would not convince users to naturally migrate to supposedly superior solutions (impractical/expensive/...). In that case they are not good enough and they need to come up with even better solution.
Well, Apple came up with not-so-good sound solution and they need to force users to migrate because they are afraid that in natural connector competition the new solution wouldn't win. That is my conclusion.

The onboard DACs on most phones are great; but the headphone opamps tend to be relatively poor. I was hoping USB C would have brought a surge to USB C Headphone amps, which can be easily integrated into the Type C dongle. I find it sad many companies don't jump on this.

Wise decision OnePlus. There's simply nothing better than the 3.5mm audio jack at this point, not even USB C.
Compared to USB C, the 3.5mm audio jack is more durable, can be rotated in any direction while maintaining connection to the accessory (be it a card reader, IR blaster, specialized microphone, etc.), enables you to listen to audio and charge your device simultaneously in most vehicles today, and having it for audio and other accessory purposes will elongate the life time of your device's charging/data transfer port (the more you use them USB ports, the faster they wear out). Plus, unless your ears are compatible with digital audio, you ain't gaining nothing in the sound quality department as your USB headphones would still need to convert it to analog audio and properly amplify it. So, unless you purchase some high-end and expensive USB headphones, you're much better off in most cases with the decent built-in Qualcom codec you'll find in even some cheap Smartphones, not to talk of high-end Smartphones.
Using 2 USB C ports will fix the latter two issues, but the former 2 still remain. Plus, let's not forget about battery usage, a 3.5mm headphone uses the built-in DAC and codec that were properly optimized for the Smartphone, thus it's only drawing power for the voice coil in the headphones. Whereas a USB headphone would be drawing power for its own DAC (which will be varying from headphone to headphone) in conjunction with the voice coil in the headphones. That'll just be adding the worry of "are these headphones power efficient" to the list when looking for headphones, with no significant gain over the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The headphone jack and USB Type C happily co-exist on my Note 8 without any downsides compared to those smartphones that ditched the audio jack. There's no reason, besides greed, why they can't keep co-existing until something better is available.

I wouldn't mind dropping of 3.5 mm jack if a second USB port would be added. I find myself frequently using both wired headphones and a charger at the same time.

That you can have a headphone jack for headphones and still be able to connect a high quality USB DAC? And therefore that this "remove headphone jacks because USB can have higher quality" point is completely nonsense?

Trends? just to please the brand owners or manufacturers and not necessarily the majority of consumers. You can still make water resistant and slimmer phones even with the presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Besides slimmer phones tend to bend or crack in your tight pockets.

Of course, the Samsung and LG flagship phones still have 3.5 mm jacks, but they are not getting lauded as brave companies going it alone against trends.
I guess when you make a quarter of the phones in the world and more than any other company (Samsung), it's hard to be seen as an outsider. It also belies the idea that dropping the 3.5 mm jack is the dominant trend. Just because Apple does something does not make it a trend. They still only sell 15% of the phones in the world. (And yes HTC and Google did it on the Pixel, but they are comparatively small players.)
I appreciate that OnePlus is keeping the 3.5 mm jack, but talking about "core beliefs" and claiming they are bravely going against "industry trends" (when in fact the largest company out there is also keeping the 3.5 mm jack) is just more hype from OnePlus, which is the main thing they are good at. GSMArena should not just act like a tool of OnePlus' PR dept.

Such marketing spin. This has nothing to do with quality audio etc.
OnePlus target customers are value conscious people. These people tend to prefer wired headphones vs more expensive wireless or usb c headphones. Thus OnePlus keeps the headphone jack. That’s it. It’s purely business decision. The rest are marketing.
Motorola ditch the headphone jack on the Z, but keeps it on the Z play. Same logic. Business decision based on product segmentation.

I was thinking about the same...
I do remember the small headphone jacks and how it was annoying back then to find a compatible headset as most (if not all) are using the 3.5mm jack.
But, yeah, if they can revive the 2.5mm jack without sacrifice to audio quality, then it will really be very beneficial.

Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and Siemens phones did that back in the "GOLDEN DAYS". If they can, so why not all companies making smartphones replace the 3.5 into 2.5!!!!!
