Ugh. Tech evolves in our phones, but not the battery tech. If they focused on a new tech, then we wouldn't need to have batteries that take 85% of the device

Endurance of top players is great, but its not taken in consideration frequent use of location, camera, performance depending apps, full brightness, not to mention if we use that all the time. Test of simple video playback, wifi, 4G surfing is not enough, maybe to differentiate phones that can endure a lot from the rest. Thats why people still find usage for external power banks.
Lack of better batteries is visible in watches, smart glasses and other small gadgets that hardly last few hours. You say its better than before, but usage wise its not, its just not enough.

We want the phone thinner, the battery bigger, and last longer. Make it possible. No excuses.

You mixed up energy amount and volume size when you say. "But at the same time more and more of the internal volume is occupied by the battery."

As per your comparison mAh/cm³. You measured more energy per cm³, yes. That does not necessarily directly relate to an increase in physical battery volume.

"Capacity is increasing. Volume is decreasing. That’s more energy in a smaller volume. In other words, the energy density is rising rapidly thus creating serious headaches because of various implications to safety and quality as well as cost." https://qnovo.com/112-choose-smartphone-drives-battery/ There's some real facts.

That honestly shows more of an evolution on motherboards, if even that. If you just keep a fixed motherboard size and then the phone scales with it's screen, you will have more battery per cm² of area.

The "evolution of batteries" ain't quite there, the batteries have stayed on same chemistry and densities for decades, changing like 20% at most in about 10~20 years almost.
I can get my 2006 Z530i's battery and measure it, put against my 2013 Xperia L in measures, or against a Moto G 1st gen battery, or even 2016 Samsung phones on the house, and they all have very low percentage differences, unless you count batteries that are literally charged up to 4.4v and discharged to 3.4 or so, they will obviously last way less on the long therm, but if you wanna do that even my Z530i would likely have ~1400mAh instead of the 900.

Look at Apple iPhones strategy - they make more power efficient chipset and, instead of keeping the same battery capacity or even beefing it up slightly(like with SE), instead they slim down the battery and decrease its capacity in the process, so you dont get much higher runtimes! That sucks balls for a supposedly premium handset!
Look at Samsung, even their mid-low range J series, depending on model, that cost around 200$, can get steller runtimes!

e.g. extend the last sentence above the graph something like this:

"The chart below shows how many milliamp hours a phone has per cubic centimetre (mAh/cm³) for Li-Ion batteries with 3.7-4V"

That apple has used two batteries I would say is just a more cost efficient solution than others that have made actually L shaped batteries (LG had a phone with one if I remember right)

It is interesting to see the older battery types as can be seen on this - though I'm not sure what unit that is ;)

And funny to see how Li-Ion initially grow linear with time 'only' the first 15 years.

Enhanced cooling won't just affect gaming and all that, it will help with battery temp while cooling. My htc 10 sits between 110-114° F when charging, when under gaming at its max potential the battery will hit 125-130°F. That absolutely destroys batteries. If we can get active cooling in there, it will save batteries. On top of better gaming temperature, normal app use age temperature will be lower. I'm not asking for the phone to be ice cold, I'm wanting the battery temp to be 10-15° cooler when charging. Cpu temp is ok but if they cool those to, I won't complain.

Unfortunately, manufacturers insist on reporting battery capacity in mAh not Wh. To find out the Wh, I usually check iFixit or similar... It used to be possible to just look up a replacement battery, but those are not longer a thing. Unfortunately.

Still, I think the numbers are fairly accurate since as you say the voltage is usually in a narrow band between 3.7V and 4V.

A comparison with average real battery life would have been cool.
It seems to me 3 or 4 years ago, the average was 1 day, and today it's more 1.5 day.

You use a really odd unit: mAh/cm³

That is most likely NOT what you mean. I guess what you mean is the ENERGY-density, that could be measured in: mWh/cm³

The other unit is only sensible if you talk fixed voltage. And sure if all is Li-Ion it is more or less fixed around 3.7-4 Volts

When more energy are consuming increasing growing over the years, batteries are dying badly!!!! I wish of there was a smartphone that can last for 2weeks on heavy usage daily. But that doesn't mean bigger battery are better, they need a ultra Sonic cooling efficient that can cool the battery a lot and at a perfect capacity of the battery even when using extreme heavy usage.
