KGI: iPhone 8 demand lower than expected, but iPhone X going strong

12 November 2017
The iPhone 8 Plus slightly exceeds predictions, as it remains the solitary option for those wanting a large screen iPhone.

imRGZ, 23 Nov 2017So here you go, your supposed SE successor: https://m.gsma... moreThose are rumours, there won't be a 4th iphone.

My SE is "their" SE. It will either be 4.7 inches or 4.2 inches. There will be *three* iphones in 2018, mark my words.

iPhone X line is the successor of the main iPhone line (it's where most of Apple is working on)
There would be an iPhone X*esque* Plus
And an entry level iphone (iphone "LCD")

I'm telling you how it is, I'm not making conversation. Drop it.

You can live and think that iPhone X is a complete overhaul of iPhone 7, but the reality is quite different, right? With iPhone 7 Plus bringing almost 80 pc of iPhone X features, every tech geek/a kid can tell that by just seeing the spec sheet, add new design and few features here and there, and voila, iPhone 7 Plus became iPhone X. iPhone X is just a beta product with beta software, not fully optimized for the screen and its gestures(GSMA said this in their review also) and the only thing that's favorable is its edge to edge display design, that notch not withstanding. I too admire iPhones, but i know what i want, that notch and not so much an upgrade over 7 Plus, made me to avoid this year's iPhones. You may think whatever way you like, but i know what i got with my 7 Plus and what extra i will get if i ever buy an X. It deemed not a big upgrade for me, so 7 plus for another year.

For example iPad Mini, they released some, then the end...
Nowadays it's iPad (non Pro) . Who knows how many iterations it will get.
          iPhone SE
          and next year iPhone "LCD"

Similary it was ipod shuffle (back in the ipod days).

Apple *always* do that, it's not my fault that you're too young to remember.

          It was like this

iPhone Xx (their main iphone, what non plus models used to be. It gets most development, most long lived line)
iPhone Xx Plus (the plus iteration of *the* iphone)
iPhone "LCD" (budget model, it may be one of, it may have some iterations, who knows)

          End of discussion.

Apple isn't serious about SE that's the reason why it didn't have a successor this year, so how are you expecting it to release a successor in 2018? No matter what you say, X is 7/8 Plus successor. End of discussion. Every one is interested in X is because of its design. Not that it completely new.

imRGZ, 15 Nov 2017You would have read these lines in the article: "Sitting in... more" entry-level smartphone"
              aka the new iPhone SE...

              Like I said 3 iphones:
              The regular one (iphone X)
              The Plus one (XI Plus)
              The "cheap one" ("LCD")

Yep, the "entry level" iphone whould be priced at iphone 7 levels ... that tells me nothing. The prices were "upgraded" across the board. BTW this didn't happen to Apple alone. Samsung Notes used to cost around $700 at release date and these days they cost $1000... so -like I said- it's across the board ... it's called price inflation and it tends to happen as years pass.

Its display will be lower-res and thus have a smaller pixel density than its siblings(again just like 7/8 had compared to 7/8 plus)." That's exactly regular iPhone 8's price point, not SE's and you see where 5.8" successor of X stands? Exactly in the middle, price wise and spec wise, clearly indicating which phone is supposedly be replaced by X. Supposed X plus will take present X's place and next gen X takes 8 plus's place and that LCD iPhone 2018 taking regular 8's place(it matches base iPhone price wise and screen pixel count wise). One can find from the pic itself about what is going to replace what. Till now you talked about X being base 7's successor and when countered, you brought SE into the picture. SE is just released for the sake of people still in the need of 4" screens and those who can't afford iPhone 7. SE didn't get a successor in 2017, and it won't get in 2018 also.

There would be a 3rd phone which would their new budget phone (replacement of iPhone SE)

                  So in short:

                  iPhone 7/8 -> iPhone X/XI
iPhone Plus -> Iphone XI Plus
iPhone SE -> iPhone "LCD" (budget iphone)

So yes, it is clear that it is the replacement of iPhone 7.

And in fact it says next X will be taking 8 Plus' place.
No brand, even Apple, replaces a $649 phone with a $999 phone. So maximum new features X brought are all there in 7/8 Plus, the phone which X is meant to replace. I stand on my opinion that X isn't complete overhaul from last years' iPhone 7 Plus.

Apple would replace the Plus model (next year) with an iPhone Xesque design. When it does happen I'll be able to show to you how much (vanilla) iPhone Plus would be dominated as well.

Where i am comparing X with 7 Plus, you are doing the comparison with smaller 7 just to prove your point. Even many reviews pointed out the minute differences between an 8 plus and X. And 8 plus is in fact a 7s plus. Only thing in X's favour is its design. That design is a departure from everything else available right now in iPhones.

Top camera after years of mediocrity (it tops the Dx0 mark chart)

The last Android that was almost as impressive (for its time) is Note 4 (first QHD OLED, first ultra accurate pen, first Note with top camera, First big.little w 64bit core on android, etc)

Other OEM's android skins have far more features than what vanilla android has now and those skins had those gestures long before iPhone X. Can you please specify what exactly complete overhaul means? I don't see any vast differences between a 7 plus and X apart from OLED screen and Face ID. Remove those two and what you get in X is just little improvements over 7 Plus. Minor upgrade in camera and little faster processor compared to 7 Plus doesn't mean a complete overhaul for me. As the GSMA's review of X states that it's just a beta product as a typical first gen product.

Build quality is amazing, albeit a little heavy and slippery feeling.
The notch is disgusting - they should have made it equal bezels on the top and bottom to even out the design and make swipe gesture more comfortable...you have to reach the very bottom of the phone.
Swipe gestures will take some getting used to but the interface is undoubtedly less intuitive than it was before and that of android.
Should have added a fingerprint sensor to the power button or the apple logo...face id is cool in perfect conditions but a huge pain when it fails(it happens much more often than touch id)
It's a cool phone...but clearly rushed to market and I think v2 will be what this should have been. Def not worth $1000+...
