Only two confirm device were to use google's tango AR. When pokemon GO came out. Apple saw an idea and made a ARKit. Which doesn't require any extra camera on the iphone. Just a phone using an A9 chipset and above. And since most people still own an iphone 6s and above. This also includes the iphone 5se and the ipad pro's. Those owners now enjoy AR apps. And since apple pays tons of money for premium apps. Ever since the ios 11 update. All iphone 6s and above, iphone 5se, and ipad pro users are enjoying AR apps. Meanwhile, google was caught in surprise and developed the ARCore. But it's yet to be release on all millions of android devices using oreo. And judging from the number of android phones running on oreo. It isn't that much. So against apple's always update system core. What does android have to counter when most of android phones never got any latest updates at all?

You're all over the place with "don't need hardware" just replicate it in software. Somethings are better done with hardware and optimised with good software coding. You need more memory and faster as well to get the software to work out what the hardware normaly picks up along with good software coding.

On the screen it is virtual anyway who cares how the 3D is created using real life data or interpolation approximation using software..As long as the result is great than why should you pay more for the hardware if the software can generate the same results? The same goes to OIS when capturing a video.. If the software stabilization works then we don't need the optical ones.. We just need a larger sensor to cope with the pixel binning cropped to stabilize the video
