I guess with software they'd have to give it for free but with hardware addition they can ramp up the price

Do companies really need to implement new biometrics to know this stuff? this isn't even a biometric, it's just a 3D sensor on the back to help with focus and portrait. just shut up....

Interesting, so more cores like they did this year in the Android phones way... check $$$ , 3D sensor on the back check $$$, bigger screen with notch check $$$ iPhone XI $1500 - $1700 versions check!

Sony has had for years the Background Defocus. It is all software, no second cam.
Sony has the 3D scanning, also software. No need of second cam.
Sony has AR Effects by software, no need of more hardware..
Why don't other OEMs do the same instead of using more cameras/sensors etc?

Should have been on there to begin with. I can see the value of it being on the back so that you can take advantage of the ability to scan items for 3D rendering - the front was strictly for login and stupid animojis. I wonder how many people have tried making themselves into turds since the iPhone X was released?
