Don't complain about big phones, after a day or so, you won't feel as big, you will feel other phones as small.

Ph00ny, 29 Jun 2011Ton of misconception about quality vs perception of quality... moreThank you. For God, sakes I was going to shoot myself with all the "plastic is cheap". I'd choose practicality of feeling expensive any day.

Barry Marlo, 02 Jul 2011Will this be another Samsung crippled version of a smartpho... more"Google should make the Nexus line open to all hardware manufacturers so that these manufacturers can compete on phone features."
Please don't make the Nexus line a cash cow. It's for a different purpose. But if you mean "Google device", "Google experience" etc., then I can see that happening.
The Nexus is to be the "Google standard", for developing and testing. Like I said, not for competition (it's irrelevant). It's what Googlers use at the campus, what is updated first. When you put that in perspective, you see why it doesn't have the better cam, but was the first phone in the Android/iOS camp to sport the NFC chip etc.
Take a look at the SGS II. It's very open to modders, so you should expect a lot of support, from both the manufacturers and from CM. Besides, now Google have that 18 month update policy, but I'm not sure if that already applies for the GS II.

Will this be another Samsung crippled version of a smartphone?
Google should make the Nexus line open to all hardware manufacturers so that these manufacturers can compete on phone features. The software is under Google's control while the hardware's bells and whistle would be controlled by the manufacturer. As long as the hw manufacturer abide on Google's specification their phone should be able to upgrade to the vanilla android version with no issue.
Because there's no competition on the Nexus line Samsung is crippling the hardware so that people would opt for their bloated android version should one want additional features. Then Samsung, and other manufacturers, takes forever to upgrade their android to the latest version.
I want a Nexus phone that is at par, feature wise, with other high end phone out there (gyro scope, 8 megapixel back camera, 2 megapixel front camera, and all the crazy expensive feature I can burn my money on).

I believe that OMAP is a huge possibility. As you said, look at the Samsung Galaxy S2, how even in their own flagship the ran out of home made SoC's and had to use Tegra 2 on some of the devices, So why waste resources on the nexus when they don't have enough for themselves? not necessarily a bad thing :)

If samsung does this then it will be light and gorgeous looking android
if HTC does this then it will be big and heavy but good looking android
and finally if LG does this then it will be good looking but faulty android

guyz... wat are you expecting??? are u thinking that android 4.0 icecream sandwitches will be made for super phones?? think back wat will happen to the other phones.. it wont be that much high end oriented rahter it would be made for general phones so dont expect it to be built for 1.5ghz or 2ghz processors.. nexus 3 aka prime will have a max of 1.4 ghz or 1.2 ghz i think... or the older devices will be android 4.0 incompitable.. and there's enough fragmantation in android...

Stondec, 29 Jun 2011Phew! So relieved it's not going to be HTC with their clunk... moreYou're right, HTC sense looks beautiful but their phones are chunky.
Samsung's a good choice, though personally I'd prefer Sony Ericsson - the Arc is the sexiest phone I know.

Ton of misconception about quality vs perception of quality
As a current sgs ii owner, here are my two cents
HTC sensation - despite being a thicker device, it actually feels thinner in hand due to the round edge compared to the sgs ii. Width and height are nearly identical.
Plastic does not mean poor quality and there are many benefits to utilizing plastic over metal.
Light weight
Higher impact absorption
Less interference with wireless signals
As long as the phone chassis doesn't exhibit any flex or gaps, I will take plastic over metal any day.

Doesn't mean bcz Samsung might be tapped to make the screen means they will be making the new Nexus. Case in point..N1 was made by HTC with a Samsung made Amoled screen. Probably the new Toshiba screen might be referred to as Super Amoled HD..wild guess on this one. It is a Google phone...therefore Google decides what type of specs n parts they want used on the device. I am still holding out hope that HTC will be tapped again to make this monster device. Also the idea of certain manufacturers are being selected to make an ICS device sounds appealing. Making ICS available to a broad segment of the population when it comes out won't leave many out in the cold waiting for months to get a taste of ICS. That way there will be no temptation to be lured to the new iPhone. As for me..i skipped the Nexus S but i will definitely be rocking the Nexus when it comes out...that's y i held out on getting the Sensation.

Phew! So relieved it's not going to be HTC with their clunky devices and abysmal battery life. Love Samsung's thin and light devices. I hope this phone will have a shape more like the beautiful Nexus S than the Galaxy SII. I also hope the hardware will be future proofed, unlike the Nexus S with disappointing hardware specs.

also plastic will absorb the shock and protect your precious screen more than metal, and since the plastic is actually much lighter ,the fall would be considerably easier on the screen.
did I happen to mention that my 2 years old crappy "plastic made" Nokia 5800 still looks like new?
I think I have
decide for your self folks ,and don't be blinded with fanboysim

who cares about plastic cases?
I've never seen one single iphone4 without a skin/gel/case or whatever it's called.
Come on, you're going to get a separate case for your precious expensive smartphone, anyway.
