Anonymous, 20 Nov 2017"Furthermore you also get more advanced and powered feature... moreOnly powered headphones can have active noise cancellation. In other words, you'd need batteries for all such headphones except USB-C variants.
And yes, the equalizer can be built into the media player. The function is the same. The advantage of having it integrated into headphones is that your can have presets for the particular headphones in question, and it'll work on all devices you plug them into. No more having to switch around equalizer settings depending on which headphones you use, or which device you use them with.

FinnishInquisition, 20 Nov 2017Ask the average consumer, and you'll find next to nobody is... moreThe quicker you realize that the average consumer is not actually average, the better it is. Manufacturers keep increasing the size of devices without increasing the battery size and yet cite space constraint as the reason. There are manufacturers who waste lots and lots of space but end up removing the headphone jack (read htc). And then there are manufacturers like sony, Samsung and lg who provide everything and yet manage to retain the jack. I am definitely not falling for this stupid "space constraint" logic for sure.

It's simply wasteful on a portable and pocketable device to include even more ports, when they hardly see any use.
Niche users that need more things plugged in on the regular can, as I've said, use splitters. The USB-C port is powerful enough to accept multiple two-way connections.

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2017You're wrong.. Smart devices should have everything integra... moreThe way you wrote your argument makes me think you've missed one of the main reasons for the removal of the 3.5 mm port. The USB-C port can do everything the 3.5 mm port can do, and more. It'd be more like removing a secondary e-paper screen on your device because your primary OLED screen can already do everything the secondary screen does. Or removing a 3.5" floppy disk drive because your USB flash memory can already do everything the floppy disks can, and more.
The idea isn't to use dongles and adapters for everything, but to switch to USB-C headphones for portable audio.
Also, having everything built-in is a bit over the top. We already don't have things like full-sized USB-A ports or physical keyboards built in. It'd ruin the portability, looks and increase the cost of an already costly device. To think we should include all sorts of ports even if only a handful use them is to ask too much. It's better if people who use a certain function (such as a 3.5 mm port) simply buy a device that's tailored to their needs, instead of demanding all phones should include whatever function it is they demand.

I avoid using Bluetooth headsets, for health reason. I also turn off Wi-fi. My router wi-fi is turned off. So I connect via wired only. Although, I turn it on manually when needed.
The problem is that we are all using mobiles phones, wi-fi, bluetooth. Whilst the risks are low, but every little bit adds to that risk.
More research needs to be done. For some people, taking the risk is worth it, for the convenience....

"Furthermore you also get more advanced and powered features with USB-C, such as active noise cancellation and integrated equalizers, to name some."
So, only usb-c headphones can have active noise canceling? and equalizer? I thought equalizer is integrated within the mediaplayer itself

USB is used for hundred things too. That' s why there's always more than one usb port. But in a phone more usb_c ports is impractical, of course. Usb-c+3.5mm is much better

This is all Apple's fault. When they remove useful things, iSheep still buy from them in droves. Other manufacturers see that Apple can get away with it and start to copy their disgusting business model. The only way customers can fight back is to let these companies see that sales suffer when they remove a useful feature and sales improve when these features are included. It worked when Samsung removed the SD card in S6, because Samsung customers are a discerning lot. Can't say the same for Apple customers.

FinnishInquisition, 19 Nov 2017At what point did I claim 3.5 mm ports on laptops was impos... moreYou're wrong.. Smart devices should have everything integrated into the device and that is including the DAC.. By your logic the next thing to go will be the loud speaker(Hey who needs a timid built in loudspeaker when we can select our own external speaker?) Next the battery(Who needs a fattening internal battery when we can select our own external battery brick?) and finally the screen(You can buy whatever screen size you like, amoled or lcd, 16:9 or 21:9)..........
It's stupendously stupid. A smart device is ALL built in. No dongles. No adapters

Without a headphone jack, there will be no antenna for an analog FM radio. Ergo, the death of the headphone jack will also be the end of listening to analog FM radio over your smartphone. Phone manufacturers want users to use mobile data instead for FM radio, increasing phone battery drain (and data use). Also, phone manufacturers want users to buy bluetooth headphones/earbuds that need to be charged regularly, to listen to music/watch movies. Bluetooth earbuds/headphones with non-removable batteries will be updated regularly as once the battery has lost capacity, you throw them away. Connecting your mobile phone to amplifier/speaker/audio systems now require you to bring a usb to audio jack adapter. So much for the convenience of the future... or is it about more things to sell, more things to buy with planned obsolescence. Technological advancement or greed? It's up to the user to decide.

Denis Thomas, 19 Nov 2017What does my choice of wanting everything from a phone mean... moreMan in present era phones having non removable batteries.
Did you care? No you still use your phone so even without jack you will stop care because its something you cant do anything with that.
So my comment was right.

There will come a time when the 3.5mm headphone jack will be obsolete. But it definitely shouldn't be within the near future (for phones and other devices). As someone here said, it's just creating a problem to a solution. Saying that it's because the future is wireless is just another BS reason to make things proprietary and create more $$$ for companies.
Removing the headphone jack only creates more wear on the USB-C or the Lightning Port causing earlier failure. It's worse when we have phone when the Port is soldered on plenty of parts causing more expensive repairs.
Brands like Apple only removed it to make more $$$ by selling Apple Certified accessories because of the royalties for the Lightning connector. Their excuse that they need it to make the phone water resistant and make a bigger battery is plain BS because other brands like Sony and Samsung managed to make their phones water resistant but they still have the headphone jack.
Bluetooth headphones are only band-aid solution. Instead of having one thing to charge (the phone itself), you now have to charge two devices (phone + bluetooth headphones, three if it has a charging case). Plus audio quality is still not as good as wired headphones.

Sometimes I listen music/podcasts through the earphones while I'm charging the phone.
Gratefully, my iPhone SE still can do that. I'll miss the 3.5mm jack if it's gone.

FinnishInquisition, 19 Nov 2017It's the third time I'm having to point this out in this co... moreIt's not equivalent to the floppy disk at all. I remember when the floppy was phased out, pretty much no one was using them by the time computers started leaving them out. With wired headphones though I see almost everyone still using them in their phones, and people who have new iPhones use the dongle instead of Bluetooth. They're far too widely used still for it to be a good idea to phase them out.

FinnishInquisition, 19 Nov 2017No. Modern waterproofed smartphones aren't using any nanoco... more Pfft... seriously kid, look up Moto G. Samsung s5 too.
that's your own personal opinion on aesthetics. Doesn't justify the need to remove the headphone jack. And to say that Apple can't do (or even BUY) what other manufacturers can, is just making fun of Apple now...
but ok, lets agree to disagree. I can't even. LOL

Be Nice To Others, 19 Nov 2017The matter of fact is that we can have both, so why should ... moreIt's the third time I'm having to point this out in this comment section now; just because one manufacturer can do something doesn't mean everyone can. Sony have been working on waterproofed smartphones for nearly a decade due to an early strong demand in the Japanese market. It'd be disappointing if their experience and patents didn't place them in front other manufacturers in this area.
Your "proof" of why Apple's claims are "bogus" falls flat as Apple themselves demonstrated they could achieve +245 mAh and IP67 after removing the port in the exact same chassis volume.
Apple are just leading the pack again, like they did with the removal of 3.5" floppy disk drives.

FinnishInquisition, 19 Nov 2017Why are you comparing two completely separate brands? Do yo... moreSo you're trying to say that Sony is much more capable of building better quantity phones than Apple?
The points I gave are to prove why Apple's point of removing the headphone jack is bogus. The Apple I knew back was something innovative and always leads in the game, yet somehow they can't do something like what Sony has achieved with this Z3+.
