Is it possible that this is actually the Redmi 5 Plus, that has been announced to come with the regular Redmi 5 on 7th dec? I mean SD 625 is already confirmed for the Redmi 5, and the Note series always had a stronger SOC

Xiaomi should use snapdragon 660 instead of 625. Already they have launched 2 phones with SD 625. One more with new variant. Omg!

Of course the 625 is way too slow. It`s similiar to the old 615, 616 and 617 and old wine in new bottles.

But 625 is not crap ... stay real.

I don't care if it has a 625. That killer look is what I need. Definitely getting this one.

If it's come with crappy 625 chip, then no one should fucking buy this. Xiaomi just started to screw-up with their fans.

Boobseeker, 22 Nov 2017Thanks for this"The maximum theoretical memory bandwidth is the product of the memory clock, the transfers per clock based on the memory type, and the memory width. For example, a video card with 200 MHz DDR video RAM which is 128 bits wide has a bandwidth of 200 MHz times 2 times 128 bits which works out to 6.4 GB/s."

                      Quoting for your convenience.

Basically, Single channel RAM = Less memory bandwidth, the same as in PCs. A dual channel memory module at 933 MHZ will have DOUBLE the bandwidth of the same memory module in a single channel config.

Where does it matter? In 3d heavy applications when huge amounts of data pass through.

Aslipundit, 22 Nov 2017A superior processor, given other things are equal, will im... moreIncorrect.

                        - Faster at opening apps
App loading times are in most cases determined by step latency between clocks and settle time. With performance governor both CPUs should be equal or very close.

                        - Faster at loading websites,
Browser optimization has the highest impact

                        - Faster in audio & video encoding,
Not quite, considering the 4+4 cluster, big cores will heat up more quickly leading to uneven throttling.

                        - Better gaming performance for high res games due to the additional bandwidth as well as the superior GPU
First, who play games on mobile device with 80-120ms input lag, second what bandwidth?
If you're referring to Cat 12,13 - then find me one location in EU where you can utilize those bands. In my area I get 30Mbit tops on LTE and that's already better than in other parts of the city.
                        - Higher end chipsets have better ISPs which lead to better imaging performance with the same sensor.
Nope, it's always a matter of software which does the processing.

It should boil down to pragmatic question - is S625 enough for me?
Personally, yes - I have done many h265 encodes on it and it never crashed or throttled.
GUI is speedy and all computing tasks are done fast. Its performance is directly comparable with 2GHz Core2Quad.
Even running on 2016MHz, internals reached 75°C, no thermal throttling occured.

Am I going to get RMN5? Hell no. Specs alone won't ever make a good mobile - mido has also kernel sources, which no latest Xiaomi device has.

Seems Mi purchased these chipsets in bulk for cheap.

                                      Perhaps at least SD630 ??

Do the comparrison between Samsung Galaxy 7 (400€) and MI 6 also 400€. GS7 has way better camera, but MI6 has way better tech. specs, I know.
I use a Redmi Note 3 (SD 650) and performance is kinda enough, it loads and works fluid, but the performance is at the limit. Some slightly slower SoC and it would make me go mad.
And the SD625 is exactly that much slower to make me go mad, at least they could build a SoC wich should have the same performance like the SD650.
