TheProperGentleman, 23 Nov 2017I believe the Mate 10 series is coming with Treble support.... moreYeah, just hoping that the rumors about Mate 9 are true and it gets Treble. I've gotten monthly updates for my unit already, the latest one (B197) arrived earlier this week. They are really trying their best to step their game up.

Google HAVE TO do something with the updates situation in Android. A lot of OEMs are just ripping users off. I suggest that they enforce every manufacturer to release their smartphones with the latest version of Android in Q4 every year. I know that OEMs will not like it, but the useres will. Companies like Sony, HTC and Huawei are trying really hard to provide the updates as fast as possible for users and others like Samsung and OnePlus release their smartphones with last year's OS. That's a shame.

Lack of Treble is one of the main reasons why I decided against buying the 5T.

But let's be fair here, Aside from Google's own Pixel (and Essential, which is run by Andy Rubin, originally from Google) devices, no other existing device is planning to get Treble in the future through updates. Treble was only ever supposed to come with new devices shipping with Oreo, not for existing devices being updated to Oreo. Heck, even the beta Oreo update for the Samsung Galaxy S8 doesn't come with Treble.

So as disappointing as it may be, it is perfectly normal for the 5T to not get Treble, and it would have been unfair to OP to expect otherwise.

The Pixels (XL) problems are only hardware. If you were talking about the clicking noises, that problem only affects a certain amount of devices so its not a big deal. At least Google is on the way to fixing this.

Please try to consider writing a valuable reference next time you try to prove your point. Thank you

For a 'never settle' thing the list of thing to settle for keeps growing huh?

It was a dick move but it is a good idea for the company. It needs a lot of resource for that, they don't have millions of sales like Samsung or Xiaomi. Look at Xiaomi's MIUI, they still using marshmallow based MIUI and finally nougat at almost the end of the year. They key here is the user experience not the timely update with a lot of bugs with it. Just like pixel 2.

I think it's more like "never settle" on working on the current model. As soon as you have released one device, forget it and start working on the next one by giving the same tired excuse of "We are a small company that releases premium phones.....".

I still can't get over the fact that the OnePlus X didn't receive 2 major updates....

Project treble won't be supported by any OEM before Android P or mid 2018 launched phones.

And OnePlus just commited suicide with that move.

in 2018, you'll see many phones will be released with 7.1.2 just because oems doesn't want to support project treble in their device. I'm calling it now
