Where is the surprise here. The Japanese are the trend setters in Electronic gadgets and they have turned their back on a defunct company which has no idea where to turn. Nokia is finished and will soon be pulling out of many other countries as well. They had the chance to change with the demand of the customer but instead decided to convert the customer into their way of thinking - BIG MISTAKE!

Most of the posters here are clearly not very bright.
Nokia has left the japanesse market for a long time now. Long before elop or even the rise of android. Its just too difficult for a company like nokia to make phones, while competing with local products, for a few people with a unique language and network.
Although, i feel they could have a few Japan specific models a year like they do to China but oh well.
But still, it was not Elops descision. I might not like the guy but i still have common sense.

Better push in Meego, rather than pull out from Japan. Meego looks so promising, it fight with Android, and iOS.

seriously i don't think the japanese really care about anything nokia makes, superior clamshell/touchscreen phones that made by Toshiba/NEC/sharp/SE/panasonic and so on are the norms there, with iphone trailing them, nokia has no place for this market. they've been enjoying HS wireless connection for years now, so does 12,14-16mp cameras, optical zooms, HQ displays. seriously i can't find any nokia feature released today that hasn't been available with japan for the last half decade

in my opinion nokia can dissapear. are still enaugh brands and models to choose from. i like nokia,i have n8,but i am not a fan. i always buyed nokia because they have a good service point, they have free gps and maps and good reselling price. bur will be no problem to buy a samsung galaxy2 or sony-ericsson experia arc. they are just mobiles. why are you not so upset or happy if ,for example, electrolux microwave ovens will dissapear?? why should i suffer for nokia?? i don't have shares there,i don't work there, so fck them!!!

Symbian based devices are still the most sold devices in Japan, strange that Nokia has never had any traction there despite that.

Strangely, when I was a small kid, I used to think that Nokia was a Japanese company because of their advertisement (product promotion) featuring only Chinese people, (looking like them) later I learnt that it is Finnish. I don't understand why does Nokia think that only Chinese people reside in whole of Asia, I mean just one advertisement for all the countries in Asia? Well hello! Tip: People will feel more attached to the product if they see some person more familiar from his day to day life promoting it then the one 2500 km away!
But nowadays the Nokia's advertisement are changed thankfully, but other companies still follow the aforesaid..
