In the past there was a habit of knocking the Volvo cars all around the world. We wouldn't get surprised to see new habit of flicking (or even knocking) Samsung phones in the coming future. Just imagine you had a first date with your girlfriend in a restaurant:
G-Honey would you take my photo?
B-OK. Here we go again (the damn thing refuses the AF and the photo looks like a blurry sh.t; you hit the phone on the table). In the mean time all the people nearby looking at you after you hit a 900$ phone on the table.
G-Honey are you OK!? What are you doing? Everybody is looking at us.
B-OK, smile!
G-Ahhh! Forget it.

Whole A7 and A5 (2017) series has same blur problem for front camera. Samsung has lost control over quality. The funny thing is that all costlier phones are suffering while samsung phones below 20k INR all are doing well. Being a regular user of Samsung, this time got disappointed. I think time has come to say goodbye to Samsung.

We average consumers were just expecting some high quality control there on Samsung's part. We can commend it if it is a cheap one, but it certainly isn't.

With two cameras in the back you'll have to flick your finger on it twice.

Just knock on the back of the phone and it will focus normally again... I don't see why these moderators and people need to overcomplicate things. It is not new, anyway.

We are in Turkey and such replacements are done in a punishment way. Service centers make you wait for a brand new electronics by purpose. As maximum time alloved is 30 days, they mostly come nearby. So, 3-3.5 weeks are a very common experience concerning swapping. Imagine lacking your smartphone for 3 weeks.

My Wife's S8 has this issue. A flick with your finger on the camera lens will "fix" the issue. It is hardware unfortunately and if this gets worse, Samsung will require another recall.

Had the same problem with my S7 last year. Back then I could see S6 owners also had the problem. And now S8 is seemingly the same. My problem was definitely hardware-related, the OIS got stuck so the lens couldn't move and focus properly. A shake helped, but having to shake the phone each time you want to take a photo is not OK. I got mine repaired and the water protection was not the same afterwards. Later problems with a self-discharging battery got me a completely new unit. Now I 'only' have the problem with the SD card sometimes not being recognized - which I can also see S8 owners have. I'm probaly not going for Samsung again.

Not trying to bring up a fight here, but this problem will be fine because it is a Samsung, but some slight software issues of the underdogs like LG, Sony, and HTC, are not because they're not Samsung or Apple.

I'm facing the same issue and this is very annoying. I raised this issue in the Samsung community, and one fellow member shared his experience of shaking the phone which will correct the cam.. clearly this is a hardware issue which is corrected by physical intervention..
I gave in my phone at the samsung service center.. and after 2 weeks of doing literally nothing but just a format, they gave it back stating it to be a software issue. But the issue continues to persist at random times.
I'm now used to shake before shoot. Since I don't want to surrender my phone again for needless 2-3 weeks with no result.
Now that this has been identified globally, expecting samsung to address the cause!

From my experience with S8+ this is hardware issue. Some mechanical part of lens gets stuck sometimes. All you have to do is shake your phone a bit and it will focus in no time. Annoying and shouldn't be there at all in flagship phone....

I very well remember my sister-in-law sent her Note4 for the same exact problem 3 years ago when it was brand new (it was unable to focus and all photos were blurry). Her NEW phone has been replaced after 4 weeks (it was so nice for service to detect the problem in so long time). So, it was a HARDWARE PROBLEM. If one sends a buggy phone for repair/replacement, say goodbye for your phone for at least 3 weeks. No need to ask how the phone's IP68 protection will be affected while changing camera module.

It's a hardware problem, related to the OIS. shake the phone and maybe it'll sharpen up. if not, contact your warranty and have them replace the camera.
