no name1, 06 Dec 20174k is better for vr not 2k..... the same no difference? fir... moreNo. It is sony who claim more money per phone. Their sale numbers are very very low and to save their mobile division they sell devices with large margin of profit. They even add the name "premium" some of their devices' name to charge premium price from its fans although there is no premium-ness inside or outside.

"Except with the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, you don’t. This phone costs a thoroughly premium $799.99, but offers no premium advantage that I’ve been able to discern in weeks of using it. It’s fine, a lot of it is fine, but none of it justifies the XZ Premium’s price or name."

The only way you need 4k screen on mobile device is for VR, considering Sony does not even care or sell VR gadgets this is complete up to Google with Daydream platform and developers. Considering only three phones in a world has 4k nome of the content support 4k, and chipsets are not so good to handle it on VR. Conclusion, Sony needs to wake up. Picture quality will not be better if you put 4k screen on tiny phone

You speak of VR and then conclude 4K is not needed but 2k is good?
For googled mobile VR maximum possible screen resolution is certainly a better choice.

Id say that, while FHD is most optimal res for normal mobile use at this moment due to energy consumption/ visual quality/ performance benefit ratio (heck, even S8s 2k comes with FHD res preset for better performance), available or upcoming advanced 4k mobile screens are definitely a must for any quality mobile googled VR. Under a lens screens resolution is most important factor along with refresh rates.

2k screens are somewhere in the middle, neither too bad for normal use nor good enough for lensed VR.

Which experts? Those then certainly didnt graduate medicine faculty and know nothing about human eye physiology.

                        No.
20/20 vison for far and short sighted maximum eye point differentiation is at bout 1200 dpi...
He was talking about all too average and circumstantial approximation of that differentiation.l factor.
There is the human eye lens focus point adaptability, and arcminutes range depends of it.
A perfect screen would be around 1200 dpi, no matter the size, as at that level no human eye (not even 20/20 perfect vision) at any circumstance/distance could discern two divided points on it.
All under that is circumstantially discernable, depending on the state of human eye vision state.
For refference, Try out max macro focus ability of your phones camera, all cameras wastly differ in that ability. Its the same with the human eyes.

So you should maybe trust me, I m a bit more expertly in this stuff than Jobs. ;-)

Steve Jobs said: "It turns out there's a magic number right around 300 pixels per inch, that when you hold something around to 10 to 12 inches away from your eyes, is the limit of the human retina to differentiate the pixels."

"the average visual acuity of a human is about 1 arc minute, which simply refers to a person with 20/20 vision. P@1 arc minute is 89 mocrons or about 300ppi/dpi."

                              Most experts agree on this.
