FinnishInquisition, 06 Dec 2017The Motorola Atrix had a swipe fingerprint sensor. Apple wa... moreThat's not the point you were making, it was about beating the competition being a visionary, i simply pointed out that the core ideas were not always Apple's, yes they refined fingerprint sensor but the vision was of motorola.
And easy to say they removed 3.5 mm jack for entire line up when there are 2 phones per year. HTC, Moto cater for wider budget spectrum, and consumers have different interests in different budget spectrum. Again, I wish Apple weren't there even if they were first, not something to be considered a good thing imo.
They lacked Wireless charging, Water resistance for a while (2 years to my knowledge since major competitors started sporting both on their flagships), also they were followers of large screen smartphones, a trend that samsung started(and got trolled by apple and several others) and to this date Apple are playing catch up. The screen resolution has been subpar since 2013, where galaxy S,note line up, nexus 5, LG etc went for full HD, and since then Samsung is going even higher. Sony now on 4K wagon. On side by side comparison even the 1440p vs 1080p differences become apparent to naked eye. Can't imagine how different 4K experience might be. To this date do not have an SD card slot, and i think they might never have it. Apart from Samsung successfully setting large screens trend, other changes aren't so visionary, but Apple could be called spearheading in hardware even today only if they didn't follow others in these things which are of immense value to end user.
The only thing they led since iphone 4 is in terms of SoCs which are still faster than the competition on raw power, but leading in that can't be same as being called market leader in terms of hardware in general, an avg guy doesn't care if his OS is having 32 bit or 64 bit architecture as long as its fast enough, but he'd be more than happy if his phone didn't die if by mistake he spilled some water on it, or could watch his media content on a better screen. Ultimately that's what practicality comes down to.
The whole point is they were leader in smartphone industry in terms of hardware may be 5-6 years ago but in last 4 years they are only playing catch up.

xXENDER FREAKXx, 07 Dec 2017The reason why Apple is able to have such raw power in the ... moreActually I think they do that because they are in a monopoly situation. No real flagship will use a MT SoC because of the drivers and overall performance, and Exynos are too expensive (because of the modems royalties paid to QC). Why pay some engineers big $$$ to innovate when you can just make marginal changes! However they risk killing the flagship market, like Intel killed the PC market with their monopoly and prices.

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2017Because Windows 10 is the worst Windows ever. Please move on from the 2015 - 2016 compulsive update Windows 10 era. They've changed for the good and besides, updating is mandatory. You guys should be update savvy for Windows 10 just as much as you want your Android phones to Oreo.
So far, I have no problems with Windows 10. If you're nervous about your privacy, take a look at so many tech sites teaching you 10 - 30 tips on how to disable such things.

xXENDER FREAKXx, 07 Dec 2017The reason why Apple is able to have such raw power in the ... morethat's not true. that raw power was mainly because of the alu count and improvement, that's why apple's cpu are nearly as big as a cpu's size. also, redesigning a new improved architecture isn't simple. heck, it took amd a good 5 year to have a new cpus that as good as 5th gen intel in single core performance. not to mention that nvidia was actually the same as intel, maxwell is an improved kepler with better memory and thus a beast of an overclocker gpu, while pascal is maxwell in smaller process.

snapdragon 845 will showcase this new windows 10s and presumably android, that means, dual booting tablet and hybrid computer is gonna be the next big thing
thus, the difference between a pc and tablet will be harder to divide

IMHO Sanpdragon had always been the one to put a spanner in the works the weak link in the Android Flagships absolute supremacy. I am guessing that thw Snapdragon vs Apple Patent Battle is just a farce/ facade for their covert blanket over Android Development.
What has Improved on the Snapdragon 845:
1. Like the Exynos 8895 before it and the Exynos 9910 now, it can now FINALLY capture capture 4K, 60fps video in an "HDR" 10-bit color depth. MEANING that with Samsungs New 512Gb Memory chips, Samsung Phones will Finally be able to shoot 10-bit 4-2-2 video Without worrying about Write Speeds and Sufficient Memory. Also, Hopefully Snapdragon's chips won't be slowing down Samsung's Improvements in Photo and Video.
2. Slow motion video has been pushed up to 480fps at 720p.
3. Wider colour gamut for screens, meaning way more accurate colours and way better HDR.
What Should have Improved, but Hasn't:
1. Still no 1080 @120fps and 480fps.
2. Camera MP resolution has been capped at 32 megapixels, meaning no stitching from multiple cameras like the l16 Light Camera for super high resolutions (above 32MP). Also no sensor shift like on Olympus Cameras for Super High Res pics. I am guessing hardware changes by Smartphones may be able to circumvent this primitive stat restriction.
3. No mention of Frame Rates for 1080p Above 120fps. Therefore the Samsung S9 may not be able to do 1000fps at 1080p. Unless it alters the architecture of the chip.
4. No mention of how ARM's DynamIQ will make gains way more than the small increments mentioned.
I hope Samsung mames their Smartphones in 2 flavours, if Snapdragon SoCs restrict video and photo processing or quality.
Once the Snapdragon 845 makes it to smartphones, one will be able to figure out the impact of the changes in performance.

AnonD-558092, 06 Dec 2017Yes. Their Kyro cores were a big deal and still are, but li... moreThe reason why Apple is able to have such raw power in the A11 is because they moved on from the architecture that is build into the A10, but Qualcomm right now is just like Intel with their chipsets, they keep upgrading and refining the current chipsets, but not in a new architecture, I like how NVIDIA do with their graphics card, they made a new architecture almost every year, currently with Pascal, it is a way that can improve performance at a bigger rate

And I despise apple too for their fraudulent policies. But let us admit that Apple a11 has some serious firepower under the hood whatever the reasons are. My analogy holds true because that was the case with Intel vs AMD too as AMD was crippled by old architecture and manufacturing until now the same way qualcomm is unable to double it's die size.
