This doesn't make any sense... What will be the sizes of Redmi note 5 phones then? Or will there be any Note 5 anyway? Either way, these 2 phones turned out to be in no land afterall. Even with the 18:9 screens, the overall sizes are huge. I want a phone that I can handle with my one hand, that's the point of having larger screens in a smaller body. These phones are almost like just another 5.5" phone in my hand, with little larger displays that apart from looking cool, doesn't do much. 5.3" or 5.5" 18:9 displays would be perfect for Redmi. LG did this with its Q6. I was hoping for the smaller one with the specs of the larger one, but if its for specs, I better go with honor 7x.

SAS23, 07 Dec 2017maybe this is the beginning of the end of xiaomi, Honor 7x ... morePlease do research before said so...
Honor 7x vs Redmi 5 Plus, same screen resolution but smaller screen to body ratio compare to Redmi 5+, Kirin 659 with Mali 830MP2 compare to SD625 with Adreno 506, almost same speed in CPU but will get smoked by Adreno at GPU, Nougat 7.0 vs 7.1.2, bluetooth 4,1 vs 4,2, 3340mAh vs 4000 mAh, win in camera terms (rear and front), $199 vs $195. Oh don't forget that Kirin 659 are built on 16 nm tech, meanwhile SD625 are built on 14 nm tech, so the big difference in battery term would make 7x shut down more earlier compare than Redmi 5+.

I think it's gonna be a huge upgrade for whom who is using mi note 4 or Redmi 4x .But honestly it will be better than Mate 10 lite and Honour 7x if the camera doesn't matter .12 mp f2.2 is not so bad but it's gonna be defeat by Huawei's new budget .sd625 is way better than Kirin 659 . I'll buy a plus version whenever I find it . let's hope positive for Battery

Anonymous, 07 Dec 2017The point of 18:9 is to eliminate bezels and use said space... moreYou can eliminate bezels with 16:9 too. It is just a gimmick

Holy moly, guys... This is a budget phone, a really good BUDGET one.
Ok, ok, you are tired of the Snapdragon 625, but this processor is great today and will still be great in 2 years from now. Imagine someone jumping from a SD 425-435 to a SD 625, its a huge upgrade.

Total crap. Too big. They have Redmi Note series for 5+ inch screen. Also bazels are too big for 18:9 screen phone. No improvement in processor. Why manufacturers consonantly pushing bigger screens ? They should reduce overall body size and keeps screens size same ?! One handed use phone are so rare now.

The regular redmi 5 is definitely an upgrade over the redmi 4 minus the tall body, but the plus is...

Just say no to Nougat, no to devices that will not benefit from the greater longevity that may come with Project Treble, which is mandatory on devices that launch with Oreo.

Dzenis, 07 Dec 2017I think everyone who says sd625 is a bad soc is kinda over ... moreThe point of 18:9 is to eliminate bezels and use said space for screen things.
This one has quite big bezels, so it's not a true 18:9 phone, hence why so cheap (hard to use given how unreasonably long it is).

I think everyone who says sd625 is a bad soc is kinda over exaggerating, plus that's the cheapest 18:9 display phone you can find, also i am expecting tthe redmi note 5 to be with sd636, and cost around 200$ it will be a great device

Did redmi series just jump from 139mm (in height) to 150+?
Oh wow, phones are dead, it's phablets all the way down these days. I wonder what sid it cost to Xiaomi to retain at least one , last, one handed phone. It's mostly sure this one won't sell better than its predecessors (it canivalizes sales from redmi note), plus it offers nothing new, it's basically the same redmi, just unreasonably big (for a redmi)... Xiaomi is one of the few companies that drops golden ideas and goose eggs almost together. Both innovative and banal , I don't know how they manage it.
Like those loot boxes , you open it and you may get the worse item in the game or some super rare one, you won't one unless u til you open it... Xiaomi is like that, before each release you can expect either a great phone or a complete disaster, rarely in between.
