Vegetaholic, 10 Dec 2017It is very big differences, self learning software it just ... moreActually, with respect to making decisions based upon logic, you are incorrect. Human learning, like machine learning, is based upon outcomes. You take a number of inputs or parameters and based upon those you make a decision. The decision has an outcome. The outcome can be desired or undesired.

A simple and relevant example I can provide is driving a car. A desired outcome of driving from point a to point b is to get to the destination safely in the shortest time possible. A person knows that certain things you should never do (run a red light) or shouldn't do (turn without signaling) because of the risk of an accident. All the same parameters a person uses to make a decision a computer can use to make a decision through statistical algorithms and machine learning. However, the advantage goes to the computer, because so many more data points can be evaluated real-time to come up with better decisions.

Using the self-driving cars example again, many cars now have dozens of sensors, including tire pressure. Over or under inflated tires have different stopping characteristics. This information a computer can process real-time to know it should apply a brake sooner than a human driver would.

One might argue that the advantage the human has is experience. However, that is not the case, since with massive parallel and cluster computing, a computer can train and refine it's analytic model to the point that it makes better decisions than a person. This is why Google's AlphaGO system was able to best the world champion in game GO: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaGo

So when it comes to making decisions based upon a number of inputs to get a desired outcome, how is what a computer does so different than what a person does? Other than taking the emotional element out of decisions?

Surficial, 09 Dec 2017Conputers will eventually be able to simulate a human brain... moreIt is very big differences, self learning software it just nothing else, but written algorithms by human programmers which programs follows it to analyse data. SO it just follows commands it does not think itself, it just does what it is programmed to do, it is not the same as human intellect to think independently, and it will take a lot of years to come to build software which thinks like human brain. Cause human itself yet can't answer all the question about brain functioning and neuron networks in our brains, you watching to many movies, it will not happen any time soon

Really , 09 Dec 2017Then why did Facebook's own AI invent its own language and ... moreBecause it is started to do things which was not designed to do, it had mistakes in a design, that AI still can't do any more when was programmed for, humans designs, programmes and gives commands even for AI, and it just follows patterns provided to It. It will take ages to create syntethic AI who thinks like human, cause it is insanely difficult to do It, by just programming commands for machine using learning patterns, it's still not going to behave like human and think for it self. Machine learning what you have now in smarthpone it just analyses user behaviour and suggest content according to It, but it does not think by itself.

Surficial, 10 Dec 2017The human mind works through chemical and electrical intera... moreQuantum entanglement among other things plays a particular role in interactions of the subatomic world which very much define the function of the human brain. We are not even close to understanding those, much less build a computer like that. The problem is not software, it's hardware. As long as we use electricity and macro-functions (functions of the macroscopic world) , we cannot even hope to approximate the workings of a brain, only certain aspects of it, a bad mimickry if you will. All the software can do is unlock the full potential of a given hardware, but if the hardware s*cks ( as electrical computers do compared to chemichal computers like the one in our heads) you are out of luck.

Imitating the human brain is a pipe dream centuries away. Our non-recognition of the full extend of the issues at hand makes us think that we are closer. It's called the Dunning–Kruger effect: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect
