How do we get 3-4 day battery life & when?

I'm not a power user at all, I use my Galaxy S8 [Exynos] for basic stuff throughout the day and usually keep mobile data, location, WiFi etc off unless I need it.. I can get 5 days out of one charge without even using the power saving feature.. That's not too bad..

They really don't last 2 days if you're a heavy user.
But anyways, I'd be happy if I didn't have to replace the battery every 2 years :| or sometimes 1.5 years with these fast chargers! I mean its not like you can just remove the back anymore!

1 to 2 days? Can you please tell us which High end phone does it? I barely use my phone and still loose battery.Note 8.
The last thing you said is what needs to happen: if you can give people options in screens, gives also an option in batteries!! Stop going Slim!!

For the love of god I cannot agree more with the conclusion of this article. I'd be thrilled if the next big "arms race" between OEM's was battery life and we can put this whole stupid thin and light fad in the rear view mirror.
At the very least release at least 1 4000+mah battery flagship each year.
You get used to whatever you use each day and a couple of grams of wight isn't going to throw anyone's back out. It's only when you compare 2 phones side by side you would ever even notice any weight difference.

You can get longer battery life by:
1. Turning off Wi-Fi when not in use
2. Doing the same thing to Mobile Data and Bluetooth when not in use
3. Use black background when your phone uses an AMOLED or OLED display
4. Set your phone to battery saving mode especially if you don't use it for gaming
5. Turning off background refreshing for apps like Instagram, Facebook, and other apps.
6. Deleting Facebook app, it's one of those battery hogs. If you can't live without FB, install the Lite Version.
7. Use Reduce Motion on iOS, or Turn off Animation Scale in Android under Developer options. Animations just waste time and battery anway.
8. Use wired headphones instead of wireless ones, Wireless headphones uses bluetooth which causes faster battery drain versus wired headphones.

Graphene enhanced batteries/ Graphene batteries. SAIT patented the graphene ball enhanced Li-Ion battery in November...which increased battery capacity by 45%, and reduced charge times by 500%.
Not to mention other companies already producing graphene based batteries, or graphene enhanced batteries for electric cars, medical supplies, etc...the technology is already (mostly) here, just not being used/pursued much by the market.

A 48 hour battery life is ideal. I don't think many people need more than that. 99% of smartphone users will have access to a charger and wall socket for an hour every two days. I'm even happy with 1 day battery life, as long as I can use the phone as much as I want.

Really? Smartphones with laptop processing power and resolutions of 2k screens, not really you can cry, when your phone last only 1 day, plus all this crazy sleek design. People want everything, but don't realise how physics works. Very nice article. I can see improvement in battery life, my S8 last way longer when S6, only need to charge every second day, keeping AOS off and screen res at 720p, pretty happy with battery life Iprovements, looks like it will slowly increase and we will have probably 2-3 days life in couple of years top phones

Snapdragon 625 devices can do 3-4 days with moderate usage.

With external wireless charging everywhere and from everything, we may end up having phone with almost none battery. Did you try phone weight without it? It will make phones also thin, meaning thin foldable phone/tablet is possible. Wouldn't want 3-way folded device 3 times as thick as phone...external charging is the future.

I get 2 to 3 days of battery life thanks to my reliable Lenovo P2 with 5,100 mAh. I also own the Oukitel K10000 with 10,000 mAh and screen time over 30 hrs, but the overall experience is bad with the Oukitel.
That being said, we need more battery advancement tech, we need screens that stick to 1080p instead of 2k and 4k, we need efficient less than 10nm SoC to conserve power, and beefing up battery capacities on phones.

What is really most power hungry on device:
LTE - Standard that from the beginning was not optimized at all. No matter what phone you will have, LTE will eat big chunk of battery life without even working at 100% of its capabilities
Screen: Oled or LCD, there is no difference, both are hungry for power. What should be implemented is proper dynamic refresh rate and resolution that would change depending on task. you dont really need QHD when watching movies, you dont really need even 1080p for that, because screen is small and you keep your phone about 40cm from the face. No point of such resolution in that task, because you would need to stick your face 10-20cm from face to see real difference. Rest depend on video quality.
System: Android is old grandpa that took viaqra and some fancy clothes. Inside there is old core that can need lots of power to run smoothly. Not to mention that Android is filled with google/OEMs sync programs that constantly send/receive data without saying why. There is no real firewall on android that would keep in check that problem. Because it is problem, such apps can constantly demand internet connection, waking up WiFi or LTE.
Of course that dont change thing about battery it self. OEMs dont really care about investing in new technology, they have all prepared for good old li-ion/poly batteries and changing it would be costly.
And there is LOOOOTS of new batteries technologies and some of them are still based on li-ion/poly that change just some of its components/used materials. They work very good, but they need new materials or tools to make them, so none of companies are eager to dump current factories and invest in new ones.
They dont really care about users experience. All whats matter is new device every year that will bring them money... and people buy that, every year people buy new phone that for most of time is just slightly modified old one... but new design or one/two new feature cover that pretty good...

The reason why battery life isn't getting better is that while the batteries have higher capacity, manufacutrers waste the extra battery power by increasing the screen resolution without any benefit (QHD, 4K), pre-installing more bloatwares, the updates make the already existing bloatwares to run more often in the background, ...
