How do we get 3-4 day battery life & when?

17 December 2017
It’s not likely that we’ll see a revolution in smart phone battery technology anytime soon. So is there hope?

When manufacturers won't count on planned want you to buy their new phones every 1-2 years. So not very soon...

Why you only provide iPhone only graph? Apple products were never a benchmark for battery life, I understand there are no point comparing oranges and apples when we come to some 4000mh phones, but surely LG, Sony and Samsung far surpasses Apple products in both energy density and efficiency and squeezes much more battery life from similar capacities... This looks like sort of ignorance from your side. Additionally, GSM Arena has recently reported about battery breakthrough by Samsung using graphene grid to achieve multiple times faster charging and capacity with potential to be on the market as early as 2019... meaning you now contradict yourself as well, by saying "it is unlikely that any breakthrough would happen any time soon" - after reporting it just happened.

no name1, 18 Dec 2017mi max2 .... u r talking about tablet of course laaa.... so... moreIts still a Phablet. Tablet is about 7 inch - 12 inch display.

It is very easy to have 3-4 real days of battery life - just put a bigger battery inside and make a phone thicker and more ergonomic. Problem solved.

When I turn off wifi and mobile data, and only turn them on when I actually need to use them to check e-mail...., then I get over a week of batterylife!

no name1, 18 Dec 2017not all can be patented...loll.... why the first who invent... moreYou cannot patent a material but you can patent the process that you use to achieve something. That is why Solid Energy batteries (batteries next technology) is heavily backed up by huge conglomerates that know it will be a deal breaker. Otherwise they would have resorted to copying it from MIT.

Bigger lithium ion batteries (4000mAh and above) mean less likelihood of deep discharge cycles (very low battery level) at the end of the day even for a heavy usage day. Therefore, 4000mAh and larger batteries will deteriorate at a much slower pace than those that always end up with

What we currently need are agressive battery savers (samsung ultra power saving or sony stamina mode) with 4000mah battery (or 3500mah minimum) I wouldnt mind if my high tech smartphone becomes a feature phone at 10% battery and ability to run all cores of chipset at once no more 4 efficient and 4 high power put 8 high power cores only since 2 cores running at 2ghz drain less battery than single core running at 2ghz (not sure if its true) and run all 8 of them simultaneously at 1.6ghz (200mhz for single core) its same as running 4 power efficient at higher clock speed but it will drain less battery

If,like me you keep up with science tech news one way or the other you must have realised there is an awful lot of work being done and money spent on new battery technology, but this is not new,it's been going on for 20 years in a big way,we have all heard/read pronouncements that this tech or that one is going to offer miracles, but everyone is still using lithium based batteries that have been around for 10+ years now !!
I've seen hundreds of reports that this type tech or that type matierial will offer miracle battery life,so where are they all ?
Not one has yet become available to the public !!
One could almost start to believe in a conspiracy theory that there are vested interests killing off new batterie techs, along the same line as the fabled internal combustion engine that runs on water being killed off by the oil industry ..
But off course such a thing would never happen in our wonderful fair, totally democratic civilisation with no 1% greedy elite, now would it ?
I'll believe in miracle battery technology when I can buy 5 through eBay,and they do what they claim to be able to do,but I'm not holding my breathe, too much hype that seems to have led nowhere,by now, there should have been lots of new techniques/mayierials all competing for our money,so where are they ?

I can get 4+ days battery life with Sony Xperia Compact Z3 sometimes when low usages, it's the most lasting phone I had owned.

Kiyasuriin, 18 Dec 2017I agree with you completely. especially about the preforman... moreOh, the Snapdragon 835 in the Qualcomm sample devices and Galaxy S8 was clocked at 2.36GHz, as it showcased the best case of performance/watt, so I got 20% from that frequency. The 845 is supposed to be clocked at 2.8GHz as its stock setting.
Regardless, even the clock rate difference between the 835 at 2.45GHz and 845 at 2.8GHz will still net additional power drain for the 845, considering the same efficiency per clock cycle (due to more clock cycles per second). The difference is likely to be small, but makes me think of all the battery life that could have been saved if the chip was tweaked for power efficiency instead of chasing benchmarks.
