Our recap of the year 2017 continues with a look at the best rear cameras.

the IMX400 in the XZ1/XZP is a good sensor, but it needs a 2nd generation, as it's the 1st stacked sensor for mobile applications, just wait until sony improves it, although a 12 or 16 megapixel version would have made it better in low light, also it needs OIS as while sony's EIS is bloody great, it can't been OIS, and it is disappointing that, sony limits the 960fps to 720p while the sensor can do it at 1080p, although next year's flagships should be one to look out for.

                  AnonD-145316, 17 Dec 2017Still non of these phones cameras beat Lumia 950/950xl period!!!Its true for audio recording, but not stills/video anymore. Microsoft was great competitor in camera field, but now its like they hide from embarrassment. Hope they get brave enough to come back.

                      I will go for Sony. Other phones aren't for me.

                        I'm surprised so many Chinese phones got on this list... They either got really good at copying or they get nice profit from personal information of their users that they sell afterwards...

                          And believe me my Xperia Z2 takes way better night shots with my phone right now if I am on manual mode on my Z2.

                          After leaving Sony after 12 years, I must say xperias are under-rated.

                            Gsmarena didn't review ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom, so... Moto Z2 Play made it to the list

                            Also in the case with top battery life, ZenFone 3 Zoom could easily be in the top 3 in 2017

                              GSMArena talks about that.

                              25mm of XZP captures almost twice of the scene compared to 30mm of V30/G6 for example.

                              If you want to compare phones with different focal length you cant stay same distance from object for all phones.

                              Phones with wider lenser have to stay close to capture same of the scene.

They can market all they want about EIS, put a second gimmick sensor just for low-light, that until they include OIS their cameras simply cannot retain those details (it's physics) unless you stabilize the phone with a tripod (or some other support).

                                If you ask me, if I were to carry a tripod for my smartphone then I would've also carried a much better camera to take the pictures.

                                    I prefered camera xzp have best camera and video and best stabilitation video camera and 960 fps, the other cameras are obsolete and are very boring and i can scan in 3d this list is taken from fakedxomark.
                                    Xzp I should be first.

                                      Sony phones are good but their cameras are awful , I still use their newest flagship since I like how well they optimised the OS, I think its only second to the Pixel 2/XL.
                                      But for the camera its a completely different story...
                                      Its OK in daylight, but low light is not acceptable for a 2017 flagship.
                                      Now don't say manual mode is the way to go.
                                      Even manual mode can't achieve the results the rival flagships deliver.
                                      Simply because

                                      1 It Desperately pushes the iso up since it has not OIS or larger aperture- So you need to switch manual and maintain really steady hands to take a decent shot.( other flagships can easily get a better photo without such effort)

                                      2 The software post processing is Extremely poor, This makes the strange over- sharpening in some areas and other areas are left with smudge effects.

                                      3 Less detail when zooming even on 19mp. If all other flagships can do a better job

                                      But I think the selfie camera does a good job

                                      Sadly this is why Sony fails to win new customers ( Only the loyal customers keep buying their phones)

                                        Screen, audio system, camera, battery are part of Sony's business.

                                        But the cost is high, a japanese employee is more expensive than a chinese. Part of the Mobile is in Sweden ( they kept after Ericsson deal). Nothing is cheap there.

                                        Same happens to HTC. Things in Taiwan cost much more than in China.

                                        Only Apple and Samsung sell well worldwide. Last year 90% of Huawei sales were in China.

                                        Samsung is everywhere, there are phones for poor ppl and rich ppl.

                                        Ppl buy Apple because they consider it fancy. Where I live I see tons of iphone 5s and 6s, but most of users do not even know the OS is called iOS.
