They need to upgrade the hardware, not only the SoC, but the camera as well. The current price is a bit higher for what it offers.

I thought Xiaomi will be releasing Redmi Note 5... Oh well i had to cancel plan on purchasing my first Xiaomi smartphone.

sd660 exclusive for mi note 3! rn5 should be release with sd636 + 4gb ram + 128gb or helio x30 + 8gb ram + 64gb

In Meizu Pro 7 high edition it gets 23 fps on Manhattan 3.1 (FHD screen). with FHD+ it would probably get around 18-20fps, still an upgrade from RN 3's (10fps with adreno 510 + FHD). But as we all know, currently MTK is quite shitty in power to performance ratio. They can't beat snapdragon in battery life.
Also, what's with xiaomi's camera? now seems like all their budget product line has f2.2.

So far, redmi note family is the best budget phablet out there. 5+ inch FHD screen, powerful HW, easily customizable due to its huge community, although we can't rely on the camera (though some mods always help)
I'm a RN 3 user, and it was a huge dissapointment when they announced RN 4 snapdragon with lower specs than its predecessor, and mediatek version barely on par with RN 3. I've been waiting for the next REAL successor to RN 3, till couple weeks ago I spotted the rumors here.
I started saving since, expecting they'd reveal it in around jan 2018. With its rumored 18:9 screen, dual camera setup, SD660 chipset, and we all know RN family never reach above USD 300, it would be a perfect successor to RN 3. Now my dreams are scattered, probably the rumored RN 5 is a new product line from Xiaomi with higher price tags, or a new product in mi note segment. means it'd cost something around USD 400-500.
Come on xiaomi, what happened to RN family? It was once a poor-man's flagship, now they replace it with another big-screened-budget crap. We need another midranger below USD300 with crazy chipset. PLEASE!

Ideally they should have used a SD 636 which is an Octa Kyro 260 (read cortex a55) based chipset, targeting the same market segment as the 630. That way it would have been an actual 'upgrade', rather than a sidegrade with superfluous new features.
Xiaomi have lost the edge they had in offering competitively priced products with good specs. What is the value proposition for the Note 5? Even the mid range Samsung j7 beats it in most things, including display.

I understand Xiaomi have new management, but killing your best selling product line is stupid as [expletive].
With all of the changes now, hopefully Xiaomi didn't go ASUS on us.

Well, I was hoping to buy RN5 with upgraded processor and camera but I guess now I am turning my eyes to next phones by Motorola (G6) and Lenovo (P3)...
Shame for Xiaomi seems they have started going downhill

Might be true. Maybe they just switching from "xx y" and "xx note y" moniker (samsung) TO "xx y" and "xx y plus" (apple).
But they already released redmi note 5A, theres a reason to release a note 5 without A.
