TheLostWanderer, 30 Dec 2017I know many people who still use 4+ years old Samsung phone... moreThen again iPhone 8 is basically Apple's mid-ranger.
iPhone X is actually the direct competitor of S8/Note8 and *crashes* them (Samsung has long lost its specs crown).

In fact S7 is probably better too (same quality of screen, better battery, better fingerprint, basically same SoC if you buy exynos, equal camera).

Onyxia, 30 Dec 2017Are you really naive enough to think that the only reason w... moreSame story (for the 3rd time).

There was plenty of internal competition. People were still buying flagships (instead of midrangers). Also in the meanwhile iphone sales were mostly unaffected.

The chinese did play a role, not as great as you think. In fact total Samsung sales went *up*, it's their flagships that suffer *because* they don't offer anything substantial anymore.

I think you're the naive one because instead of reading the numbers you have an overriding concept in your mind, and despite the fact that numbers saying a different story , you still believe yours. I repeat, the chinese only had a trivial effect on *flagship* sales (as evidenced by iphone sales), Samsung was the one to have the greatest effect.

No, it was not because of lack of competition as shown by the uptick of sales when S7 was released. Chinese did eat some of the sales, not *half* of them. Most of the sales were actually eaten by lower end Samsungs *because* Samsung didn't bother to maker their flagships spectacular and far ahead the rest (as they used to).

Sammy is shooting themselves in their foot for years now, their descend from flagship sales is marked and it would be so without the Chinese factor as well...

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2017It's because Chinese phones have exploded in popularity whi... moreWrong: S7 that was a decent phone for its time did see an uptick in sales despite the "Chinese Maelstrom" being in full force.

The masses do buy quality, despite what is being said in tech site. S6 and S8 phones are underwhelming phones despite the praises they got from popular media and/or tech sites, they sold badly. S7 was also a sealed phone, but excellent for its time, so it sold almost S5 levels like.

There's a definite connection between underwhelming specs and low sales. In fact the S phones' sales charts show an almost 1:1 connection (best S phone for its time sold best, worst S phone for its time sold the worst).

I know many people who still use 4+ years old Samsung phones without any issues with performance, maybe only battery life.
When I wanted to buy the S8 it was kinda strange, only for a moment I stood up and thought: Why shouldn't I try an iPhone? Like iPhone 8?
I quickly realized: Because S8 has awesome screen, headphone jack, SD slot... and I never doubted again.
Today I'm glad because of that decision. Apple really took it too far by doing this.

This is the hot topic now a days.
(Below Opinion is based on my own personal experience while using an Apple and An android Phone.)

              First of all:
For all those who are saying that android phones (Samsung, Lg, google and others) are laggy or there are booting issues. Please don't compare a cheap/ low end android phone with a high end Apple phone (As Apple only manufacture high end phones).

The compassion should be like with like means u have to compare a high end android phone with Apple high end phone as apple only manufactures high end phone each year.

              Second Thing (My personal experience):
Currently I am using two phones and that are Apple iPhone 6s Plus which was released in September, 2015 (Around 2 yrs old) and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which was released in September, 2013 (Around 4 yrs old). I updated both phones whenever i get any update from their respective companies.

Currently My iPhone 6s Plus is working so slow. For me it is so slow that it is really annoying me. First I didn't know that Apple purposely slowing down old iPhones. I was thinking that there was something wrong only with my phone so i deleted all pictures, documents and games but still my phone is slow as hell then letter i came to know that Apple purposely slowing down old iPhones. Honestly i felt pain and so bad cuz for me Apple was another name of premium phones is terms of performance.

On the other hand im Using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from 4 years and it is still running fast as it was performing 4 years ago. I still play heavy games on it and never find any issue. there is no lag or any issue. Note 3 was my first samsung phone and im really amazed by its performance.
Im also surprised that why we don't mention all Android high end phones when we praise only Iphones. High end android phones are equally good as Iphones.

But after such a bad move made by Apple cuz of which i am also suffering with my iPhone 6s Plus. i am really disappointed. And if we talk about high end phones so i can say that now android phones are on better side as android phones have capabilities to work good and up to the mark even after 4 years usage and their companies don't let down ur highly paid phones like apply did.

I was about to buy Iphone X in February but now im canceling the paln and wait to see what will be Apple next step. I cant spend my hard earned money on Iphone X if they will treat it the same way they did all their previous phones.

Many ppl will agree or disagree with me but this opinion is based on my own personal experience.

              Thanks,

Besides, why not let there be choice, different people have different uses and opinions. I know all aren't viable. But why can't there be choice between removable and non removable battery for some devices. At least experiment like good old days Rather than jump nonsensical bandwagons..

Smart people that is, unless you like paying apple or Samsung over $300 for a new screen.

That is what I like. But removable battery is good too. Would you like to see another major design changes in phones with the return of removable battery. Imagine all unibody flagship we have today, all of it becoming ugly and bulky again with plastic back cover. Bezel less in the front and bulky plastic at the back. Wow. Must be one hell of a phone. Beauty and the beast concept. Hahaha.

The reason why the S3, S4, and S5 beat the sale of the S6, S7, and S8 is because back then, there was NO COMPETITION, especially from chinese manufacturers. Remember, back then , chinese phones are CRAP. And all midrange phone are CRAP. People are forced to buy a flagship, hence why Samsung's old flagship have great sales.

But now, the market had change. Cheap phone are dominating. Cheap phone are more than good enough to be used (compared to older cheap phone, which are next to unusable). There's a lot of competition nowadays, hence the lower sale of Samsung's new flagship. It's not because they axe the removable batteries LOL. Majority of the people nowadays doesn't even care about that anymore.

Now there is no other choice in the free market for a replaceable battery flagship so we are forced to pick from a multitude of poor choices.

I'm still holding onto my LG G5 until it dies.. so much for the free market choices after that. My plan is to buy a different model each time i am forced to upgrade so as to not support just one manufacturer to show my displeasure.

                                        S3 had 65 mil, S4 80 mil, S5 60 mil in sales.

Compare it with the "design aware" sealed phones:
                                        S6: 45 mil
                                        S7: 55 mil
                                        S8: 40 mil (projected)

Sales are 2/3rds of what they used to be. The fall in flagship sales was *instant*. The market spoke, but Samsung chose to ignore it, because -you know- it's better to make money from things like repairs and accessories as well...
