Anonymous, 02 Jan 2018I don't think you know what Treble is, either. In fact, wha... moreThen please, explain how Treble benefits the end-users in bootloader locked devices, when the OEM is already dedicated to a minimum of 2+ years of updates?

    Nothing changes for those users.

What you're saying is exactly what I'm saying; the OEM has to spend the extra hours implementing the hardware-specific code into the update package. The end-user still gets their update as long as the OEM is pushing them. When the OEM stops pushing updates, you can't do anything about it, regardless of if your device supports Treble or not.

Now, if the device is bootloader-unlocked, things would be different, as it would mean you could flash nearly any ROM onto the device after the OEM stops pushing updates. But HMD have their devices locked for now, so this doesn't apply.

I agree with FinnishInquisition. First of all, this phone actually seems to be a great mid-ranger. And from what I see here, most people don't know what they want. Probably just the type of people that like to follow the trends but have absolutely no clue about specs and other technical details. Why do you all try to favor those Chinese brands that aren't bettee than Nokia. Because they are cheap? Look for the value to price thingy it would help. Nokia actually is doing quite well with sales. Why does everyone say that Nokia should be gone and their phones aren't worth it? Their phones would become better and better now that HMD have passed their first year. Is it out of ignorance that everyone says this? Some kins of fanboys or people who don't understand phone specs at all? Why do you all want Project Treble? Do you even all know what Project Treble is? Like FinnishInquisition said, HMD would just have to spend more time on their monthly updates in which they haven't broken their promise and are doing great so far. Again, if a phone ain't 18:9 let's just bash it! It ain't trendy... 16:9 is actually more practical than 18:9. For those who think this will be a phone with huge bezels look at the images posted on the article. And then there are the complainers about why the phone is with Nougat. Well this is a Chinese version. And did you know that Android phones in China are more restricted? A model for Europe or America would be released with Oreo.

According to Geekbench leaks this phone WILL come with Oreo pre-loaded. Also Project Treble is not important because Nokia/HMD themselves are committed to working on fast updates themselves.
'Huge top and bottom bezels'? Look again, the bezels have been REDUCED compared to the original Nokia 6, and there are no separate buttons at the bottom anymore.
Plastic? That cannot be right. original Nokia 6 is made of quality metal and Nokia/HMD are committed to high quality material. Even the 5 feels richly made. There's no way they would use plastic now.

AnonD-670810, 02 Jan 2018sharp AQUOS S2 better choice than this https://m.gsmarena.... moreYou think a phone with nearly identical specifications, but twice the price of the original Nokia 6 is a a "better choice"? Not to mention, with a Nokia you know you get a sturdy build quality and fast long-term updates. I don't think Sharp has that reputation.

There's plenty of good competition for the Nokia 6, but the phone you posted doesn't strike me as one of them.

As HMD have vowed to keep their phones updates (and have so far) while keeping their bootloaders locked, Treble doesn't affect the end-user. If and when they unlock their bootloaders, people will have a good reason to ask for Treble support, but not before then.

And YouTube, TV-series and all other things you would reasonably watch on a smartphone are all 16:9. Not to mention that browsing is far better on a 16:9 screen (1:1 would probably be optimal, but you need to compromise at some point).

Going with 2:1 is just a marketing trick to keep people buying new phones, because 2:1 is suddenly the "new trend" that you need to keep up with, or you have an old device. No mentions that it makes browsing, watching YouTube or a TV-series worse. Manufacturers needed to do something to stop the phones from looking stagnant, and differentiate the older and newer devices. And people have fallen for the trick.

                          - Treble makes it significantly easier for OEMs to push updates as it stratifies hardware : software. OEMs don't have to deal with Qualcomm's inability and laziness in pushing new drivers for older chipsets.

                          - But OEMs obviously don't want to do this, because that throws a wrench in their strategy of forced obsolescence- and it looks like Nokia is headed down the same fickle path. As a consumer Treble should be a very important factor in making purchases.

630 is a great improvement on last year and I hope that the 7 will get either the 660 or higher range.
