Tim, 17 Jul 2011Now we just have to wait for the phone companies to realeas... moreNot exactly true. Not every Australian Galaxy S are actually still stuck on 2.2. If you had a branded version from either Optus or Telstra, then yes, you are stuck.

But, Vodafone branded versions (and unbranded versions) of the Galaxy S actually has the 2.3.3 update already. Vodafone has a bad rep with their network. But they are far more better when it comes to updating their Android phones when compared to Optus and especially Telstra (the worst).

After updating to 221 Samsung Kies says:"This is the last version".
It's annoying to know that the rest of the world has Android 233 on their devices.

This is gonna be the last Gingerbread update to roll in Android and IC Sandwich will be the next. I'm so glad that Google is still trying to give Galaxy S I a slight future proofing despite of hardware-obsolescence.

Yes, and in my country we are still stuck with 2.2 for sgs i9000. I just hate these stupid firms that don't care about anything but their profits, don't want to say more because it is not nice.

To be honest, I don't really find this attractive in Android where it has taken such a long time (I mean gingerbread) to make use of the secondary cam for video calling. I've also heard it can only make video calls via third party software and not just regular 3g calls. Not too good. And Samsung takes a shit load of time to give updates for their devices, for Android and BADA as well. HTC is much better at providing updates while Nokia is the slowest. But at least Symbian had this video calling feature from a long time and works flawlessly. I just wished Nokia provided as good support as Android for Symbian 3.

Using SGS for the last 10mths, and so far there has been the 2.2 update, followed by the 2.2.1, then the 2.3.3. And now the 2.3.4 update on the way too.

Great support by Samsung for their regular updates for their oldest 'Droid!!

                                Keep it up guys!!

Now we just have to wait for the phone companies to realease it. We are still stuck on 2.2 here in Australia. Did not even get 2.2.1, nor 2.3.3 - OPTUS sucks big time!!!

On a differnt note - I see it is version JVP. I though Samfirmware had a JVQ version up as the latest...? Also does anyone know if flashing via ODIN can I just use the .pit file, the PDA file and Modem file .. whilst leaving the CSC file as the older version? I belive the CSC only contains the API etc... Am I correct?

It seems to me that Samsung is now better than Nokia when it comes to upgrades. It was just a few months ago when Nokia fans were hammering and laughing at Samsung for its poor support. Now, Samsung is updating their older phones faster than Nokia.
