mark, 09 Jan 2018why would I install an alarm app or email app if theres a b... moreI'm not a fanboy and I don't like fanboyism, just to get that out of the way. The examples I presented were from a 2 month period of time during which I've used an iPhone in the past year. I was sceptical but tried to keep an open mind about it and I can confidently say that my opinion of iOS has gone down drastically during that time. Let me explain if you care:

The Alarm app: All I wanted to do is to change the snooze timer. But it turns out, in the built in app, you can't. Why can't you? Does Apple not know how to implement it? Surely they do, so the only thing I can think of is, they wanted me to google why the snooze timer is exactly 9 minutes so I get to figure out that it is some kind of clever easter egg and admire them for their ingenuity. I don't need that kind of condescension from a fucking alarm app. So I get a new one. Oh shit, turns out you cant. Really mature.
Next alarm issue: I want to be awakened by a song. I don't want to install iTunes just to transfer this one song. Solution: Get an mp3 online no big deal (for the sake of argument let's say I have the desired file on my home media server). Just download it... Oh shit, turns out you cant. Try it with Chrome? Nope. iTunes it is... yayy....
E-Mails: The provided E-Mail app is actually quite nice, just one issue: I want links to open in Google Chrome. How do you do that on ANY other personal computing device? You set a default browser. So just go into the settings.... Oh shit, turns out you can't. Safari it is... yaaay...
But wait maybe I could install an alternative E-Mail-App that let's me set the browser with which to open links. Oh shit, turns out you can't.

Do you see a trend? And trust me if you don't, I can go on and on about the dumbest little things... Try tethering your internet connection over USB (without also making a hotspot), try finding anything in the mess of a settings app (Who would have thought that there is a master switch for all vibration in the accessibility settings... Try to find that one. Of course you could use the search bar, but that doesn't change the fact that the settings menu is horrendously organised).

Many people say, "My phone just has to work, and that's why I have an iPhone". I say "My phone has to work the way I want it to, and that's why I have an Android phone". But I accept that it may not be for everyone.

My point is, not only Android fanboys dislike iPhones. In general I even like Apple hardware, it's the software that kills it...
And I will gladly take the disadvantages of Android over an iPhone anyday.

Android will never catch up in update like iOS due to the billion of android phone around and different hardware from phone to other phone even though OEM’s has different phones with different hardware and different size.

Anonymous, 09 Jan 2018True. But if by 'freedom and liberty' you mean being allowe... moreHoney, i understand where you come from with the app packs, as you open a stock app and the impression and feel is often ruined, plus they put more work on the phone. Manufacturer's skin (Grace UX, HTC Sense.........) can actually provide an option ,but there is still Google Apps .......
BUT what i don't agree with is your argument that custom roms have "malware", as they are most often made by a small community, not expecting money (they rely on donations i think, or if they are on the edge they become a company and make their rom an os like what Cyanogen.Inc did.........), Plus if you are that skeptic some are open source so you can go scan the coding to see if anything is suspicious.
That, and basically most companies use your data for money, so Android is not much different from it's competitors. Most want that data and they'll get it. But atleast you can try to limit that a bit with Android's flexibility (roms and aosp).
Android is NOT perfect or anywhere really truly good, but it's not that bad as you kinda make it seem.
I may be just wrong though i have little knowledge of that area.

But if by 'freedom and liberty' you mean being allowed to use custom icon packs and launchers (which will never allow you to get a proper user interface and user experience as a whole), then I'd gladly opt-in for Apple where all products are updated, secure, and smooth, OR would even go to WIndows phones for the same two reasons.

Giving away your privacy (Android bugs, exploits and malware) and security (devices not updated to the latest version of Android) for the sake of using launchers and icon packs is never an option for those of us who know how their devices and OS should work and what those should and shouldn't do.

But to each their own. If they don't care about their data, personal details, money and bank accounts, they can use Android for as long as they please.

Just how you still see people walking around with their salaries in the form of cash, keeping it in their purse, briefcase, car, etc. People carelessly expose themselves to risk just because it's an apparent cheaper alternative (i.e. not having to pay bank fees) and they then open up the 'free' possibility of other stuff happening to their money.

Same with personal details, personal data, basically everything you put in and through your phone.

                                    P.S.
No matter what launcher in combination with no matter what icon pack(s) you use, you will never get all your icons to look like they're part of a whole, to follow the same design rules. Icon packs will never contain icons for ALL apps you find in the Play Store. Icon masks and stuff like that? Besides not looking great, they're pretty bad actually.

Custom ROMs? Well, then you probably want to install software that you do not want to pay for. So you are actually installing all kinds of malware and other data leaking services on your device.

                                    Custom ringtones? Yeah... Great!
Adjusting animation times and effect styles? Yeah... Impressive!
