Disappointing Q2 for Nokia, set to launch first WP7 phone this year

21 July, 2011
Nokia just announced their Q2 financial results - sales volumes decreased and the company posted an operating loss of nearly half a billion euro. On the up side, IP royalty payments went into Nokia's...

lubba, 22 Jul 2011WP7 only been out a year and you down playing it. Please! ... moreI definitely agree with you there bro, i believe alot of people are reluctant to try another OS, actually trying different mobile OS you'll be sure to see than WP7 is pretty neat alongside it's Mango features we've seen online also.

Let's just hope things go well with their first launch together.

They liked Elop's ideas and he's the right man for the job. Blame the previous CEO and his incompetence for Nokia's downfall. Elop is just doing what is practical and he's trying to save Nokia from running aground which the previous CEO did.

Worst comes to worst, MS is rich enough to buy Nokia and I have no problem with MS buying Nokia.

I myself don't care about nokia, but i do admire wp7 OS for what it has or had offered me, unlike iOS or android. I'm also the kind that doesn't run to and buy a product because everyone else has it. I buy what benefits me and wp7 provides it. By the way, thanks for leaving me and my kids mango. We'll be eating it up this fall. LOLZZZZ!

I'm so happy! They finally got what they deserved! After the N95, nokia somehow got it into their heads that they are Apple v2.0 and started making expensive, slow phones which had about the same technical innovations in them as the 7710. I was a huge nokia fan and every step of the way I felt back stabbed every time I bought a new phone from them. I hope they file for bankruptcy before I buy another nokia phone!

Your right I should keep things easy and stay away from Nokia and WP7.5. Leaving LG and Nokia WP7.5 Mango phones for you and kids.

Revamped, I don't think so. WP7 is the easiest OS to use and adjust too. Unlike the former, full of clutter just like android and iOS.

I will not argue with you on this. Friends have iOS, didn't impress me. Wife has android, nothing special. Looks just like iOS or vice versa. Kid tested between wifes phone versus mine. They keep coming to wp7. Friend, it doesnt take huge brains to use wp7. It is not anything like the former.

You can't blame anyone but Nokia as they brought this upon themselves. They never took advantage of the North American market because I never once saw an ad on t.v. for a nokia products and a whole bunch of bs ads from apple claiming to have made a innovative feature that had already been on nokia for ages!

Learn how to friggin market nokia and you should have given customers what they wanted but now its almost too late.

I'm soo pissed of at them for falling so low!

lubba, 22 Jul 2011WP7 only been out a year and you down playing it. Please! ... moreTrue but the WP7 is only a revameped version of WM 6.5 and traces back to it's origin in Win CE and Pocket computers back in 1996.

Sure the WP7 is "new" still the MS is ditching it like they done with the WM6.x because it failed to attract customers.

Just look at HTC LG and Samsungs sales of wp7 phones compared to their Android Phones (and for Samsung also their BadaOS).

I wonder who will launch the first WP7.5 phone Nokia or LG?

No I won't spend a penny on a phone before I am convinced that it suits me...

WP7 no different than any other OS? For goodness sakes. If thats the case, everyone would be buying wp7! iOS is already established. How many years has it been out? And the same goes for android. The difference with android is that there are vast android devices roaming out there. There are not a whole lot of wp7 devices though. Carriers dont market them well either. And peole are relunctant to adopt a new platform. like smoking, hard to quit. hey New wp7 coming soon with new update and even more updates after that. At this point dont believe GSM arena or any other websites and their takes. Buy one for yourself, play, test, compair. ive done it and wp7 is the winner for.

Jiezel, 22 Jul 2011Hopefully, Nokia will survive the catastrophe and get back ... moreYou should go write movie scripts and bestsellers :) Conspiracy theories galore!

The simple fact is, Microsoft has trouble getting outside the PC market with Windows and wants to see it grow on the mobile market. If they ruin Nokia doing that, with their OWN OS at that, the damage will be far greater for Microsoft than it will ever be for Nokia. It won't be hard to reinvigorate Symbian or get back into Meego for them. It will be hard for Microsoft to ever get a foothold with WP7 and future versions though.

The only real loser here is Microsoft, Nokia already lost a few years ago and has little to lose so a big partner is more of a protection for them, than a burden.

                                    (They have lost it, already)
The sad thing is all the Nokian employees loosing their jobs in order to let Microsoft Gain some market share percents.

I don't think Nokia will be among the top 5 phone manufacturer for very long.

I started with 1.6 then 2.1 on a X10 Mini. Got my bunch of programs that I prefer, quite immediately.

Now, passed 2.2 and on 2.3 on a HTC Desire HD and still got the same programs/apps :)

True, there have been several free updates of the apps, both the freeware and the paid ones.
